There are lots of types of lizards out there that would thrive in a 55.

Maybe a frilled? I think they would do well in a 55. I don't know for sure, I'd have to do research on those. The rest that I'm thinking of, you're right. 55 would either be too large or eventually they would outgrow it. BD's are good for a 55, a Tegu or a Monitor would quickly outgrow that environment, and wouldn't a uro be too small? Some Chameleons, but they would need more air flow and wouldn't do well in an enclosed tank... Are there skinks that don't get too big?

Basilisks are recommended for a 55, aren't they? We have been looking at those as a possibility for a new lizard later on down the road. What about a dwarf monitor? There are different types of skinks that would do well, you don't have to handle BD's often, and an adult female would do well in a 55, heck, most keepers are lucky to get an adult male in a 55... I could take that 55 off your hands ;) would come in handy as soon as I get some more room. From what I'm seeing, you can house a Mali Uro in a 55 just fine, but I'm not sure I trust the source: http://repticzone.com/caresheets/index.html , I just got curious and bored and did some digging for you. Take it or leave it, I just couldn't sleep.

frilled lizards are very cool lil guys!!!! i've always wanted 1!!!! that wud be a pretty good fit 4 a 55 gallon.
I think they grow out of em pretty quick, they need a lot of room. That's probably one of the reasons we never got one, because we were looking into it for a while. I just forgot how MUCH room when I posted that earlier.
