Alright, you read it. Our 2 1/2 year old has bronchitis. He has always been great with taking his meds and asks for more. But ever since getting his antibiotic on Sunday, he will not take anything. No Motrin, no antibiotic, no sudafed....

Any possible tips on rationalizing with a very stubborn little boy are greatly appreciated. We are at our whits end. It is not our style to bound him down and force it down his throat. He just spits it out....

We were masking it in his milk, but he caught on to that and refuses milk now.

Thanks!

Is it liquid or pills? I would assume liquid? try making it into an ice pop with fruit juice and the meds mixed in?

It's liquid. Well, we are sticklers and don't give our kids juice. They drink milk and water.

Hmmmm..he stopped eating applesauce when he started refusing all baby foods. But that was quite some time ago. We may give it a shot again. Thanks.

Yeah, that describes him. We have control battles daily. You know, I really don't know what his favorites are today. He used to eat everything or at least try everything, but lately, if it doesn't look right to him, forget it. Nothing orange...

Let's see. He loves cheese, oreo cakesters, apple, shrimp...that's what comes to mind right now.

Hmmm..... ok I know this wasnt on your list but ive dont chicken nuggets with ketchup (meds in ketchup- not too much ketchup {you want him to get all the meds} but enough not to taste) but apples i know it's pushin it on the sugar level but they make sugar free carmel sauce add the meds to that and let him dip the apples in it ( make sure if its first time with carmel he taste it with no meds) If nothin works id bribe with Oreo caksters ( do they make flavored ones)?

You may have something there. He's really been into dipping lately. he only needs to take 1 tsp daily. I can do the chicken nuggets with ranch dressing. He devours that. Or pancakes with syrup. I'll give it a shot....

LMBO...as I read this it brings back so many memories. My kids are adults now and the thought of having to "bargain" with a child makes me cringe. Luckily though, my kids never fought any meds.

I have a 5 yo and a 3 yo that refuse to take meds.I've tried mixing meds with EVERYTHING you could think of and they always spit it out.

Yeah, that is pretty much where we are. Ranch dressing didn't work. He knew it was in there. We've had to force it. He gets some in and some gets spat out. It is horrible. But last night, I think he finally got a taste for it after the struggle and wanted to continue sucking the med dropper. He kept saying yum, so hopefully, this is behind us.

He's always been an addict with his meds asking for more after the dosage is gone. I guess when you are really sick, you don't want anything.

Fortunately, the worst is behind us and he's been acting like his mischievous self again. :D

I know this is late and things are better now but just in case it happens again here is what I do.
I know how you feel...my son refuses some meds when he is sick, not because he does not like them just b/c when he does not feel good everyone around him has to be miserable too. I don't mix them in anything, I just sit him in my lap...don't hold him there he just sits or sometime gets down and walks away. When he is not looking a put a few drops in but not enough to spit it out. Sometime it takes up to an hour to give them to him. Thank God I never had that problem with my daughter.

Thanks, Sandra. That's basically what we reverted to. But he became possessed whenever we retrieved the dropper.

You know, that little stinker. It was a nightmare the entire 10 day treatment. We've been looking at this game in a magazine (Diggity Dog) and he seemed really interested in it. So, on the last day of his med, my hubby simply said off a whim, drink this up and we'll get Diggity Dog. He downed it! Grrr....

On the bright side, he is much better and back to his old self. ;D

Bribery always works for Bev when she tries to get me to take my meds! ;D

Tools, movies, food, etc. You know....typical bribery items. ;D

Come on! We'll be married 21 years tomorrow. We're way past those types of bribes....though they'd still work if ever offered. LOL!
