Gaping.

I know gaping is a way of regulating body temp but is it to heat up ir cool off?

I believe it is to find what temperture it is so they can cool or warm up .

It is their method of taking in outside ambient air/temps to help regulate internal temps, it is usually related to cooling off. It is a very natural function that they use that I often compare to just being too lazy to move to vary their internal temps slightly, nothing to worry about .
