As some of you may know from previous posts, Ive been having some issues with my Bayne. He doesn't like to eat and hasn't shed in probably 3 to 4 months now. Ive pegged the shedding problem to possibly not eating and not growing.
Bayne has gotten to the point where he will eat 1 roach a day, probably medium to small in size, and 1 to 3 ML of random baby food. Bayne refuses veggies/fruit every single time I offer it, which is daily. I have even tried going a week without any baby food and he still refuses. He is very stubborn, lol.
Somedays, Bayne will eat more roaches. The most he has eaten in a day is probably 7.
A little more info: Bayne and I moved out of our apartment and moved back in with my parents, so that was a huge change for him. That was about 2 months ago. I set up his enclosure in my room, and he ended up not eating at all for probably 2 weeks. I pegged this up to depression because the room has 1 window and is quite dark. He also was in there with a rescue cat that I have, and I found out that Smokey (the cat) was picking on him while I wasnt in the room. So, Bayne's enclosure was moved to the living-room, where its a lot brighter and there is more activity. I am also around him a lot more. He has perked up quite a bit, eats 1 roach a day now, etc...
Bayne has been to the vet about this 4 different times. 3 times he went to the same vet, where he was examined for parasites. They found a small amount of pinworms and he was put on medicine for them. The fourth vet examined him and said he looked great, pegged his eating to being older and told me to try feeding him every 3 days to see if he would eat more then. He does, that's when he ate the 7 roaches, but I feel like Im starving him when I do this. Am I?
Also, my another of my concerns is, Bayne is not getting his vitamins and calcium this way. I have bought liquid vit. And calcium and have given it to him orally once. It did not go over well at all. Im not even sure if Im suppose to do it that way and I felt horrible about it to be honest.
Lastly, I have noticed that when Bayne does try to eat, when he goes to catch the roach, he will miss a couple (3-4) times before he actually catches the roach. Its almost like he doesn't realize the depth of how far he has to move his head and tongue to catch the roach. He does this every time I feed him, its not just random. Im worried this may be a more serious problem? Is he getting deficienies from the lack of vitamins and calcium? He doesn't have any other signs of any illness, including MBD. I will post a picture or two of him below.
Sorry for such a long post.

P.s. I have tried probiotics as well as repti boost. The repti boost is what got him to eat at least once daily

You said he's been doing this for 3-4 months now? His fat pads look good so obviously he's getting enough protein.

This to me doesn't sound normal for a juvie to only eat 1 roach a day.

What are his temps? How old are his lights?

I do know baby food is not good for them with the sugar, salt and preservatives. You can make your own "baby food" with his greens, calcium, vitamin powders, repti boost, bee pollen, Pedialyte, heck if you can stomach it you can even put in some dubia's.

Bearded dragons are known to depend on us. They know we will give in. I had trouble with my oldest one after he got off the Panacur. I had to give him slurries, as he stopped eating on his own. Well the slurries lasted forever. So I tried superworms as he wouldn't eat anything! He loved the superworms and then that's all he would eat! He ate so many his poop was filled with superworm pieces! Lol
If it wasn't for hydry31 giving me the strength and courage to hold out and not give in to him, he would still be eating superworms! I do give him a few of them once in awhile but now he eats his greens and dubia's.

I do know at Bayne's age you can go to 2 a day feedings. But he needs to eat more than 1 dubia. Let's check the temps and the age of the bulbs and go from there.

His temps are great. 106 in basking area and the rest of the tank stays near 75 to 80. His uvb bulb is about 7 months old, I am ordering a new one on the 1st.
The slurries you can make, can you tell me more about them. Do you just put it all in a blender? Ive tried it before and it was rather chunky, lol. Do you syringe feed it the same way as with the baby food? I definitely will stop the baby food. Im so worried hes starving. I offer him food everyday but he just wont eat it.

That's a great weight! So he is getting enough protein! That's good. Plus like I said his fat pads look really good.

Do you know what his temps are? If they are off by even 1 degree it can make them not want to eat.

Honestly he looks good but let's still check his temps.

Sorry I didn't see this message! Lol lol

Okay his temps are way too high! For his age you need to drop those down! 95-100F basking
Warm zone 85-95 cool cool zone 70

I believe with all my heart that once you drop those temps and get the new bulb he will start eating like a champ!

He's at a great weight!

Yes I did syringe feed it the same way. My slurries consisted of:

Pedialyte
Bee pollen
Vitamin powder
Calcium powder
Organic all natural baby food butternut acorn squash

I couldn't stomach the dubia's.

I did mix it all up and with the Pedialyte I didn't have a problem with it being chunky.

Thank you so much. I knew this too, I can't believe I did this. Haha. I will switch his bulb to a lower wattage right now.

Bobbi Bayne looks great take a breath... You are doing just fine. We can read all we want, we can try all different things and wrack our brains on what our babies need... Sometimes which tends to be the most often the info we read are guidelines to help us.. What I've found is each dragon is different and we Have to listen to THEM and how they are behaving.. we have to play detective first I look at lighting, heat, weight..I will use my Izzy as an example as she's constantly changing.. She is a year and a half now and only weighs 400gr! she only eats bugs like once every 3-4 days sometimes she will eat a bite or two of greens sometimes not.. Yet she is totally healthy.. she just doesn't need alot, her fat pads are full, she isn't skinny. She also goes in stages of wanting more heat than a typical young adult would be given, to wanting less heat.. I only know this from watching her and where she is on her basking log.. when she won't get into the range to bask I raise the light and wait a couple hours and recheck her..kept doing adjustments until I got her to bask and gap.. only for her to change again.. :) I keep records so I can go back and see what I've done and her weight, if she's pooped or not...
Now my male Simon is 10 months and is 505gr!! he is a beast he eats everyday 2 times a day bugs and greens..he also tells me what he wants when he avoids his basking light...so I adjust to raise it and he fully basks..

So read Bayne watch him, weigh him, try different things.. if it's lighting you gotta wait a couple hours before changing again.

Thank you. I was wondering it this is just how he is. The vets can't see anything psychically wrong with him, so I will just do what he wants me to. I figured as long as he IS eating and pooping, that has to be a plus.
I did just get him to take another 3 superworms. Yay Bayne!

Yep keep offering different things, bugs keep him hydrated, baths and monitor his weight and like I said read him...he will tell you what he needs..He may also just be slowing down as it's the season for that... Simon has slowed down quite a bit over the last few days..I give Izzy a supplement slurry once a week..
