im new to beardies but not repitiles haha.my parents have always had snakes but i chose 4 legs haha.ive always raised nile moniters but when i went to basic for th AF my mom sold my 4.5 to 5 ft mean baby so ive been out of the game for about 4 yrs haha.

so my 3yr old has been saying he wanted a dragon for some reason.so i was all over it haha.got him the coolest thing with the same name me and my wife got him a female beardie from petco.later that night me and the wife were looking up habitats, food and pics found out about all the gorgeous colors. well the next day i sprayed her with water and newbie mistake laid the heat bulb down and boom.so ran to petco grabed abulb and looked at the beardies again and found to me a pretty orange male so i scooped him up too.

i have a question now what color would u call him and is the female just a common?hes in the middle of a shed too.

BDs under 10" in length, nose to tip of tail, should not be on a particle substrate of any kind. Pellet substrates are an unsafe choice for any age BD. If a particle substrate is really wanted to be used once the BD is large enough, the only one I would recommend, would be 'Strained' Children's Washed Play Sand. The way it is set up now, poses an extremely high impaction risk & a haven for bacteria & mold.

I am going to guess that you bought the second one& are housing them together, because you did not mention buying a second setup. This is never a good plan  . Please pay particular attention to the link below on cohabitation & very seriously consider the very real consequences of it.

thanks for the great inf i was just searching the forum and found that link about living together.you are right about them living together but for a very short time till i go out and grab another tank for one of them.the substrate came in the beardie kit we bought from petco didnt even think of the mold issue.the guy told us that if it was ingested it would break down in the stomach and it was fine?

You will find as you wander the forum, that Pet Stores are generally the poorest sources of care info that you will find (Many Horror Stories) & this is a prime example of that. Both on Cohabitation & substrate. We even have a thread set aside just for that ... ;) .
