I have a baby beardie that's about three months old. She's very picky and often refuses to eat her veggies. What should I do about this?? I gutload her crickets every day and she eats those usually, what would be the best food to gutload the crickets with be? :)

Crickets are not very picky about what they eat just remember what your feeding them is going to the dragon - carrots are a good hydration source along w/ squash - I would get your baby some BSFL from here www.symtonbsf.com order large and do not dust them - get a glass dish or a ceramic one that insects and worms cannot get out of - here is a website for nutrition http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html ignore the kale thing its a good staple feeder
add as many BSFL on top of the salads as many as you want its a treat staple feeder and lure to the salad bowl - do not feed your dragon carrots to too much Vit A if you feed the crickets - I would also recommend some dubia roaches as well a good variety of insects is good --- you can get some small super worms as well and silk worms from this website www.reptilianarts.com if you get the super worms add them to the salad as well but only use 1-3 -- add the BSFL and supers to the salad in front of her / him so he sees you do this it will get his attention -- you can feed your crickets salad food as well l--

Are you only feeding crickets atm or other bugs too?
Keep offering fresh salad daily, offer a bit less if you feel like it’s being wasted. Try to hand feed the salad too. Wiggle it about in front of them. Eventually your dragon should take more interest in it.
Initially mine would take salad hand fed, then for a week refused to even look at it, then began to eat a little bit here and there with BSFL added, now at 6 months he aggressively eats it when he’s hungry but doesn’t look too happy about it, haha. He will no longer eat it from my hand either. They are funny little creatures, their food likes and dislikes can often change weekly!

Thank you so much, this was very reassuring!! I'm just feeding crickets atm because she was raised on them and I figured it's easier, but I'm looking into other bugs. Do the BSFL turn into flies?? I'm a little concerned about a fly problem in my room haha, but I want the best for her and the crickets jump out of the salad too quickly.

Okay, so my advice is not to freak out. Baby beardies only need about 20% of their diet to be veggies, but it's still very good to start them off young. It took me forever to get my baby beardie to eat his veggies. What I do is put the feeder insects (BSFL and sometimes mealworms are best for this) under the greens. He'll usually accidentally get some salad in his mouth while trying to get a bug. Also you can buy gut loading stuff at the pet store, and you can basically just give the crickets you're beardies extra salad. Also I very much reccomend getting dubia roaches for your beardie! They are easy to take care of, a great staple, and are very nutricous

I was initially feeding crickets and locusts but life has been much easier since switching to BSFL & Dubia Roaches. I still feed locusts now and then too because I much prefer them than crickets. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to crickets unless I HAVE to! I’ve not yet had any problems with BSFL turning into flies and I’ve had them contained for up to 2/3 weeks before feeding. Also, if they were to turn into flies, I don’t think they are a problematic fly (if you know what I mean). I’m still a newbie myself so hopefully Hooman can offer further feeding advice or someone else on the forum!
