Eye won't open?

Alright guys, so our bearded dragon is only about two months old and a few days ago he got a piece of sand from his cage stuck in his eye, my girlfriend got it out with her finger and she never touched his eye or eye lid. And ever since then he has barely been opening his eye and it kind of looks damaged around the eye lid. I've read about this happening from bad bulbs before burning their sensitive eyelids and I assure you it definitely wasn't from that. Also the sand we use is bearded dragon safe. We have an appointment at the vet in a few days but I thought I'd get some thoughts on if his eye is going to be okay and if he is going to go blind in his eye. Will this most likely heal on its own? It looks like his eye is indented a bit when he rarely opens it and it looks swollen around the eye lid.

The eye is probably irritated from having the sand in it and having someone get it out. It doesn't matter if the sand is beardie safe, anything that gets in the eye is going to irritate it. You can rinse the eye with some sterile saline solution until you get it to the vet.

I would imagine it is very agitated from having an abrasive piece of sand in there. I agree with Patsy there is no safe sand. Keep doing the saline rinses.
