hi, my beardie is 8 years old and recently i had noticed his eye started turning a little cloudy. then it progressively worsened and got to where he refused to open it at all. he has had this for about two weeks as i’m trying to treat it at home. i’ve been putting terramycin on it twice a day and have been giving him extra soaks in an electrolyte bath that contains vitamin A (for his eye). i also have been rubbing it gently with a towel and pouring the water over it to try to help. he has started opening it again but it looks like this. any ideas?

That eye looks bad ---- I would suggest getting him into the vet -- but you need to find the cause --- are you using any colored bulbs in the tank or any coil UVB's ? If so get rid of them NOW-- what about substrate what are you using? Here is a website to find a reptile vet ---- www.arav.org you can try putting some raw unpasteurized honey like a Manuka but it can be any raw unpasteurized honey on his eye --- if there is an infection it will kill it DO NOT leave any crickets in the tank but I would suggest getting him into the vet ---- but please find the cause of the issue

i used to use a colored bulb but it didn’t bother him for years, though i just use a regular day heat bulb instead. my UVB isn’t coiled either. i keep his tank very clean and i do not leave insects in his tank, as he is old and will not get them himself. i cannot get him to a vet ATM because i’m in the process of moving, but i will try to as soon as possible. i don’t know about the honey, but it’s worth a shot to try in the meantime... though i’m not sure how it will work if the antibiotics i’m using on him won’t work.

Try the honey it is a antibacterial and is used for alot of things - the eye thing could be after effects of the colored bulb being used - I just know they can cause eye damage and long term at that --- you UVB your using what brand is it and where in the tank is it ? they need to be placed certain distance and placement depending on the bulb your using --- can you post a pic of your tank and lighting please

Hi he needs a vet asap. Do U have a colored or coiled bulb in his tank? If so remove them ASAP they are very harmful to a beardies eyes. Also he needs to be 10inches minimum away from the uvb long light & at least 8 inches away from the heat light. If the tank is not high Enuff use a lamp raiser. Tyoically Improper lighting, too close to the lights or shedding skin are typically the causes of an eye infection. Use the clear zoomed for heat & the Reptisun 10.0 T5 for uvb only and the length u order for uvb should cover 70 percent of the tank & start it at the hot side. Always replace the uvb every 6Mnths because it stops emitting uvb even tho it stipl
Turns on, many people either don’t know or don’t do it Amd the Beardie suffers with shakes/tremors, brittle bones unable to walk or eat. If u use colored or coiled or the powersun those are deadly to their eyes; never ever use them. Here’s a pic of the uvb and heat lamp. Right now he needs antibiotics please find a good reptile vet. Also make sure all lights are off at bedtime. Only use a 60 watt ceramic heater in the winter at bedtime only if the temp in his cage drops below 70.
