ok we were looking at max and we noticed that the 1/2 way down his tail his scales were plated like normal but closer to the base of his tail the scales are expanded. can someone explain to me what it is and if i should worry about it? plz and thank you

it's been my experience that as they get older the scales on the tail tend to get thicker and a well feeding dragon will have a "fat" tail as they store fat and junk for the winter in their tails as well as fat pads in the belly. anyway, the healthy fat tail will make the scales look stretched and almost like they are just sitting on top of skin.
