hello all;
I read a few stories this morning about bearded dragons escaping from thier cage. I know its possible, but I never had it happen. Maybe mine are lazy or content? I forget to close Brain, my dragons, sliding plexi door like once a week after feeding him and he has never escaped. He sits on his cave which I positioned backwards up against the glass so he can hide without being seen. And my other one, pinky is in a 40 gallon(temporary) with an open top with the hammock going right to the top of the open cage. Anyways I've been running my cages like this since day one. Maybe they don't try to escape because they don't feel caged?
The point of this thread isn't really to explain how lucky I've been, but to see if anyone would like to share their stories of how thier beardies became houdinis.

Same with mine, i leave it open all the time and ill come back to find my beardy still sitting, i think its a stimulation issue, alot of enclosures i see look like the “padded room” also bearded dragons are pretty smart, mine will actually motion to me that she either wants down or up somewhere, its quite cute.

I've noticed how smart they are. I feel mine would "escape" if they had a warm basking spot outside the cages. My wife and I have been thinking about using a piece of slate under a 160w bulb in the corner of the reptile room to allow them more time out. We try to have them out a few times a day, but they don't like cold linoleum lol. The bedrooms are all linoleum. The rest is carpet which the don't mind at all

Ok so I feed brain my big guy yesterday earlier than usual because I started making another 4x2x2 birch enclosure. I forgot his door again. I'm downstairs in the living room assembling the enclosure and out of knowhere I noticed my boy brain watching me from the landing. I don't know how long he was there before I noticed him. I kept an eye on him a bit while finishing screwing the plywood to itself. 3/4 birch. When I was done I cleaned up a little and scooped Brain up and asked if he was ready to go back home. Apparently he wasn't. He wanted back upstairs and climbed in my wife's bed. She didn't know he was out either. We laughed it off and rewarded brain for not getting lost with superworns.

Mango escaped once! She was laying next to her leash when I came back. Poor baby just wanted to walk! She acted a bit scared like I would get mad she escaped D: I didn't, I just didn't want to reward her bad behavior with a trip to the park!
