A lot of people say that, and for the most part it's true. People just can't agree on why its true. Some people feel its like "roach Viagra," i.e. it has something in it that makes them want to breed more. I'm from the camp that it is effective because an orange is one of the perfect foods to feed them. It holds hydration very well, it's nutritious, and roaches seem to enjoy eating them. That being stated, I have seen the exact same results using mangoes and carrots, I imagine for the same reasons!

As for not feeding them directly to your dragon, that brings up a good point. You want to have two colonies going: a breeder colony that you load up on veggies, fruits, and some form of protein, and then a feeder colony that you gut-load with stuff you would feed your dragon (I use collard greens and acorn squash). That way when you feed from that colony and your dragon gets what he needs from them.

Any other questions? Have you read up on the care for roaches?

Edit: this care sheet http://amazingly-wildfeederz.webs.com/caresheet is stickied at the top of this forum.

Yes that's probably too humid. You don't want mold to grow. What are you using to create humidity, and where is it in the cage? I myself use a plastic water bottle with holes pricked in the cap. I put it on the warm side and have no issues with mold or bad molts.

Yes. That's what I do, along with the water bottle trick, and things work well for me. ;) Just keep an eye out for gnats. They are bad down here right now in San Antonio for some reason.
