Dubia feeding amounts

Hi all. I know there is a similar thread about crickets and a juvenile, but my question is on dubia's and baby dragons so it didn't really fit there.

My baby dragon Wendell is about 10 grams at the moment. His first couple days here, here didn't eat a whole lot. Maybe 2 wax worms, 2 dubia in two days. I think he's found his appetite now, and might be getting more comfortable in his new home.

This morning I gave him a couple small pieces of greens and a slice of carrot and he ate it all. Then I gave him 6 dubia (he won't eat from the dubia bowl, he will only hunt them). He ate them all really quickly and I was just wondering if I am underfeeding him. Yesterday he ate almost the same, just less at every meal and only one bite of salad.. Added a pic so you can see how big he is and if maybe I just don't understand how big their stomach's are lol.

Congrats on your new baby! Glad he's got such a healthy appetite!

Bearded dragons are known for their voracious appetite. If you are feeding him the small size dubia's then that's great. He will let you know when he is done eating. The rule of thumb is to feed them as much as they can eat in 10-15 minutes. Within less than 10 minutes my Wally who is about 16 weeks old will eat all that he wants and will stop. If they do over eat they will throw up. I think you should give him more if he will eat more as long as they are the small dubia's.

Thanks! Yes, I'm feeding him small dubia and some smaller mediums - basically whatever isn't too big.

I was worried about overeating as it discussed in another thread. How many dubia can your dragon eat in one sitting?

Falkor will usually walk away and go to his favorite basking spot when he's full. On a few occasions I've left Phoenix worms or something similar in his salad bowl and they'll be gone when I get home, so he's snack at some point.

This is Wally, DOB 4-20-16 weighs 116 grams and is 13 3/4 inches long as of Wed August 3rd. I do weekly weight and measurements.

Wally was really sick as a baby and for 5 weeks or so he didn't eat. I had to feed him slurries. He has just gotten to the point of eating better about 2 weeks ago. Which is the first time he ever ate a collard green. Yesterday I caught him eating his greens by his self for the first time. It warmed my heart to see him growing up after what we've been thru. He had pinworms and was put on Panacur for 4 weeks which almost killed him.

Anyways he will eat about 25 BSFL's and 7 fat medium dubia's, 2-3 times a day. I have videos from 2 weeks ago when he ate for the first time if you would like to see them I can post them.

Happy for you and Wally that he's healthy and eating now! And wow, that sounds like a lot! I'd love to see a video.
