Dubia colony feeding

So I have decided to start my own Dubia colony. I was told that they love citrus to eat but that I should never feed the roaches that get citrus to my dragon or it will kill him. Is this true? I've never heard that before.

Thanks!!

No it wont kill him, but dont feed them to much citrus, ive heard its used to help them breed rather than be their main diet, i feed my roaches (although a different species they’re very similar) potatoe, carrot, lettuce, any veggies the dragon doesn’t eat, roach chow, and dog food, roaches need 3 crucial things, heat, humidity, and protein to breed successfully.

If you separate the baby roaches from the colony the Moms will breed faster because they are “lonely “. While the babies mature the citrus will leave their bodies after a little while “if” they consumed any. It means you need 2 bins but the bin for the babies doesn’t have to be big.

That's what I was told, too...that citrus will make them breed faster. I have a bunch of young ones in there...about half an inch. I also purchased a starter colony and put those in there. I have egg crates for them to hide in, roach chow, and water gelatin things for them. I have an uth but I'm concerned it's not getting warm enough for them. I need to put a thermometer in there and see what's going on.

I already have a small bin that I was using to house the roaches I ordered for feeding. I could put them in there.

I keep hearing how breeding them is so super easy and will be a forever, free, source of food. I guess I'll find out if it's true. LOL

Yep. I went all out. I was afraid of melting plastic and starting fires so built glass bottom, slippery wood sides in my boxes. Heating pad on each with individual heat settings. Breeding box I have set higher to keep them in the mood. I only take roaches out of the bin with no breeders to feed my dragon, every couple weeks I check for babies and separate. My dragon is 8 months so it takes awhile for them to mature and size up.

I even put a stripe of Vaseline around the edge inside so they can’t climb out, babies have serious climbing skills with their small “hands”.

I have a work bench in the basement I wasn’t using so I put up insulated walls with some air vents. I have a thermostat on the outside so can make sure they all stay warm.

Just a simple container with air holes and an uth.
You may want to keep the uth on the side of the tub, i just know sometimes they can get too hot for the roaches if its not monitored, i dont use a uth (but i live in FL soo)
