Hey I've started a dubia colony I've got about 12 to 15 female to about 4 males. Room temp is about 72 and I have a heating pad up under the bin I have them in also have some egg crate and a couple of paper towel rolls in there. Im feeding them Flukers high calcium cricket food in there and Flukers orange cube hydration I also put mustard greens a yellow squash. Does everything sound about rite. They all look mature I got them at the same place so I would think some may be ready to give birth do they lay eggs or live birth?

Hey welcome to the world of roach breeding and cost saving is unbelievable. How big a colony are you needing ? as in how many creatures are to be fed from your colony? I don't use a permanent heat pad as they will live fine with out the extra heat at room temps. I put the heat on when i want them to breed and control the production ( you will be suddenly over run with them) and stick a few chopped strawberrys and orange i find this helps with the mammy and daddy stuff. I also keep breeders and feeders separate. Breeders eat anything literally they are dustbins (just avoid mould) dried dog food, fish flakes, carrots ,cabbage etc. Feeders i only feed the eaters food. 4
They live birth about 30 to 40 young each.

Thank you my long term goals for my colony first and for most feeding my animals rite now he only a couple of months old so I'm hoping they'll have some young I hate crickets they die to quick and they smell. I only have the one dragon now but sometime in the future I'd like to get three ackie monitors so from what I've heard they are eating machines and if I have an excess beyond that I'm sure they won't be hard to get rid of.

Adult males will have wings and adult females will be all shiney and you will know if they are pregnant as their bellies will get very thick.. they give live birth they are contained in an egg sac that the female will push it out as the eggs are incubating in order to regulate their temp and then will bring them back in ****don't disturb a female doing this or she may drop them** once they are ready she will push the sac out and it will open and tiny white nymphs will scury around staying close to mom for about 24 hours until they turn to a black color.

Thank you. I've got my dubia breeding bin up to 90F is that sufficient for breeding I've also got flickers hi calcium cricket diet along with flickers orange cubes mustard greens squash and citrus it seems what everybody says is a roach afrodiziac. I bought some small dubia to feed my Mungogerry and he loves them can't wait to have a ready supply I really hate crickets.

Yes that temp is fine, the key to dubia's is while your waiting for them to start producing only go into the tub to change out food/water don't go thru the egg flats and in general try not to disturb them... the more you go in there the longer it can take for them to get going. Remember what you feed them your dragon eats too so watch the high calcium cricket food as you can give them too much calcium.. I make my own chow out of guinea pig pellets, chick feed, oats, corn meal, cherrios and some fish flakes. I give them water crystals that you can get at any lowes or home depot it's miracle grow water crystals (just make sure it's only crystals no additives) way cheaper than those flukers stuff..oranges to my breeders, carrots, zuc, squash and the stems from collard greens and bok choy...[/QUOTE]

Ok thank you. I think we are on the same page. My colony has only been going a week the place I got the from I would have thought sence they kept there males and females together some might have been ready to give birth. I bought 100 small dubia a to feed my dragon along with crickets I've got the small dubia in a gallon ice cream tube whitch I have placed into the bin where I have my breeding colony in and I was looking thru it and found one of the adult males in with the small ones.
