Dubai colony start up

Hi guys I'm new here. I'm getting a baby bearded dragon for Christmas he looks to be no more than two months old so of course he won't be able to eat full grown Dubia but that the only ones the pet store I'm getting it from carries. I'm going to try to start my own colony. My questions are what would be a decent number and ratio or male to female roaches to start out with. Next question is how long does it take for them to start reproducing so I could start feeding some young ones to my dragon? Thanks...... Dale.

The number of adults depends on your needs. An adult female produces about 30 babies every 60 to 75 days, I believe. A good ratio is 3 to 5 females for every male. I have a colony of 100+ adults, and now that I got the temps up where I want them, I have around 150 tiny tick sizes roaches running about. You probably won't need a colony that large since you have one beardie.

Those paper egg flats can be bought online, but they aren't necessarily cheap. I got lucky and found a lady who stopped breeding roaches. She sold me 105 crates for 10 bucks. Sometimes you can get them from restaurants, since they just throw them away.

Hdrydr31 and I started our colonies about the same time from the same vendor "Brandon". So what I am saying is get with him (six wands) and buy his starter colony and ask to get all small nymphs to go with the adults. 300 smalls sound like a lot but a baby beardie will go through 30 a day.
