Previous owner had incorrect UVB and her fingers look a little like she might have mild MBD. Thoughts? (Her lighting set up is different now I have her set up how I have my other baby.)
Usually rounded spinal cord is easier to see than mbd in their feet, her feet look okay to me, how does she move? Fast n coordinated? Or kinda slow and looks confused?Previous owner had incorrect UVB and her fingers look a little like she might have mild MBD. Thoughts? She seems to move fine. Her toes just looked a little bent and curved so I just wanted to double check.Usually rounded spinal cord is easier to see than mbd in their feet, her feet look okay to me, how does she move? Fast n coordinated? Or kinda slow and looks confused?
Tremors, shakes, quivers & twitching is MBD. She has very brittle bones when they get MBD so the cage needs to be injury proof Amd easy access & make a soft basking spot out of blankets and a box and cushiony ramps to protect her if she falls make it fall and injury proof. U can help reverse/stop MBD by using the Reptisun 10.0 T5 UVB long UVB light asap; the length U order should cover 70 percent of the tank starting at the hot side. And remember to always replace the UVB every 6Mnths. And use the zoomed clear basking bulb for heat. Leave both on for 10-12 hours in the winter and 12-14 more like 14 in the summer. Lots and lots of calcium powder, buy the REPCAL from petco & give it once per day 5 times per week sprinkled on the crickets or veggies preferably the proteins but it doesn’t matter she needs lots of calcium and needs proper UVB to breakdown the calcium and absorb the vitamin D for her bones. Also once per day/week on a non calcium day, sprinkle the herptivite on the feeders or veggies. Here’s a pic of what to buy and the enclosures and how the lights should be. If able mount the Reptisun inside the tank I have several beardies this one is on top but I ordered a new one that mounts inside. My other beardie that was an MBD reacue has her reptisun inside. Never ever use colored or coiled bulbs and get a hideaway or hammock to place Behind the basking spot it serves as a secondary place to lounge & u can place a soft terry cloth on top & underneath a fleece blanket which serves as a hideaway which they need, so they can hide from the uvb as needed or rest/sleep comfortably at nite; they love soft & comfy things & love watching TV; soft mellow shows or movies. Here’s a few pics the Beardie with the soft cushion basking spot I rescued from MBD her bones are brittle so u have to make the enclosure injury proof and soft and easy access because they wobble and fall.Previous owner had incorrect UVB and her fingers look a little like she might have mild MBD. Thanks she already has all the proper husbandry now, I was just curious towards if that looked like MBD because I’ve never seen it in real life to know for sure.Tremors, shakes, quivers & twitching is MBD. Ok good; just follow the above and keep up woth all. Tyoically people give up their beardie to a new owner when they are sick or in poor health. And when obtaining a new beardie people should always purchase a new reptisun 10.0 T5 UVB long tubular lighth so they can monitor and be on a routine to replace it every 6Mnths. MBD does also affect the way they walk, they’re legs & nails; calcium, proper UVB and good lightingThanks she already has all the proper husbandry now, I was just curious towards if that looked like MBD because I’ve never seen it in real life to know for sure.
Her claws are sharp! I'll have to have my aunt clip them, she did my other beardie's nails.Wonky toes could also be from having long nails that’s weren’t trimmed in a while. They kinda start to morph or twist sometimes, which kinda looks what happened to her pink toe. This also happened to my girl Cleo as well as she has split toes from glass surfing so much with her previous owner. Here’s a picture of her toes to help. But your beardie looks to be in good shape in anything just trim the toes a little to make her feel a little more comfy![]()
Be careful u can injure a Beardie very easily clipping the nails. A vet charges $15. Also, make sure she’s getting 12-14 hours of both UVB & Heat in the summer; more likely 14 & 10-12 in the winter. Her claws are sharp! I'll have to have my aunt clip them, she did my other beardie's nails.
