Hello all, I’ve had my baby Maluhia (Malu for short) for 14 months. I’ve never taken care of a beardie before. I’m pretty sure she’s a girl since no obvious femoral pores have developed. Not to mention the head bobbing, when it occurs, is very slow and not intimidating what so ever. Her overall temperament is very calm and friendly! She seems to enjoy my company and never gets stressed (black beard). She’s a very good eater, loves her collrard greens and watercress, occasional fruits, mealworms, and daily crickets. She’s still in her starter 40 gal tank but gets lots of running around time outside, and a 120 gal enclosure is on its way! Based on pictures alone I’d like to see what everyone thinks and whether or not she’s looking like she should. Thank you!

She looks good --- and cute pics :) -- as long as her lighting is correct and good basking temps she should stay healthy --

Thank you! I currently use one bulb (Zoo Med Powersun) it has both UVA and UVB. So far it seems to be enough. She grew very fast, has good energy, and has regular bowel movements. She’s also “potty trained” only goes in the same spot, never fails!

Ok sounds good --- sometimes those dont put out enough UVB -- keep an eye on her if she starts showing signs of lethargic not eating pooping becomes off then its possible its not putting out enough UVB --

Thanks I will! When the larger enclosure comes in I’ll probably get an extra UVB tube to make up for the extra space

Sounds good NO coils and dont get the same length as the tank --- a 24" fixture w/ reflector is good for 40+ gallons unless the tank is like 5 ft or better

Hello again Sadie,
For the new 4x2x2 (120gal) will I be able to use the ReptiSun Terrarium Hood T5-24” with a ReptiSun 10.0 UVB T5 HO Fluorescent Bulb - 22" in addition to the 100W Powersun self-ballasted mercury vapor UVA/UVB lamp I’m currently using?
Just want to be sure the two can be used together. Perhaps the 100W can be the main basking spot at the appropriate distance away?

Yes I would use the Powersun as a main basking bulb- the T 5 is going to complement the Powersun
Your screen is fine mesh like a screen door or wide holed like a dime? Have you gotten the 120 gallon yet?

Thanks for confirming! The screen on top will be fine mesh. It hasn’t been delivered yet but it should be here in a week or so. I ordered from zen habitatshttps://www.zenhabitats.com/collections/zen-habitats-reptile-enclosures/products/zen-habitat-w-wood-panels

Ok so your uvb will need to go into the tank 12-15 inches from basking decor-- the powersun can sit on top of the screen so it's gonna block those UVB Ray's coming from the powersun so it's good you got the Reptisun-

I think she’s beautiful, looks healthy and very happy. Does she have a hammock? Mine has 3 and a cave to crawl into when she needs alone time. The rock is good for her nails.
She looks amazing, great job!

That’s so great to hear thank you!!
She has two hammocks and a cave but does not care for them. This is where she spends most of her time even sleeps in the one hammock every night. I can’t wait to give her more space and options though, everything for her upgrade is coming at the end of the month, she has no idea how much better she’s gonna have it! She’s about 14 months and already 20 inches long, her new home will make her even happier I hope.

Your a great mom! I got ideas from Pinterest on decorating mine. I have a garden gnome and I put different plants in. I also switched to a special dirt mixture and my Lily loves to dig. These are older pictures and I’ve put herbs in so she can eat them and it makes the cage smell good.

Such great pictures, thanks for sharing!
Looks like your Lily really likes that gnome lol
Really nice set up too. Maybe I’ll try the dirt too in a back corner opposite of her eating area. Warm dirt must feel good! I’m also excited to try some herbs especially if it provides a nice smell.

Malu adjusted very well and immediately fell in love with her new enclosure! Beard never turned black, she ran around like never before and licked every inch of the place. I’ve never seen her utilize and hang out in so many different places before, her energy levels have definitely improved in just 12 hours
