Do beardies really carry salmanella?

I was in a discussion group the other day and one of the members had mentioned off topic that he was feeling kinda lonely since his divorce. I had suggested maybe that he get a pet (hey worked for me!). So when he said he was slightly allergic 2 the furry ones, I had suggested a reptilian one. This one girl that I don't particularly like made a somewhat rude comment towards that. Basically, she said, "That's disgusting, those things have salmanella". I told her, "Maybe if you're dirty and neglect your animal sure. I didn't realize you were a reptile expert ::)". Anyways, I was thinking though if that statement was true. I'm sure MOST animals carry something, but as long as you are being sanitary and your pet is HEALTHY, that these things are very minimal issues. So was she wrong or was I?

First off the "salmanella" scare came from people selling hatchling turtles which do have the bacteria on their developing shells. With most reptiles you would actually have to ingest their feces to get anything from them.

Not positive, but as far as I know there are no known cases of salmonella from a beardie.
