Just a little info online, while I was looking for the new babies tank. The most disposable animals in want adds are=hampsters, guinea pigs ,bearded dragons, birds, and some fish. Then people are running adds for free-they want these animals for free and then the animal is back up for sale or giving away about a week later. The kids got tired of it or they didn't have time for the animal-So why get it if you haven't got time.Want some opinions on this if you have time-river-7

I'm tired, I can ramble until I fall asleep LOL!

I think it happens with a lot of pets, not only reptiles/amphibians and fish, but cats and dogs too. Parents buy them for their child and then the child gets bored of it an the parents are stuck with it. People don't realize the work that goes in to caring for a reptile before they buy one. It's one thing to do your research and get the proper lighting and proper vitamins and food and decorations etc, but people don't realize the TIME you need to put in it. I don't do anything in the morning until my critters are up and fed. If that means I don't eat or shower then oh well. I get an hour lunch, half of it is feeding and cleaning after critters. I come home from work and the first thing I do before cooking dinner is making sure everyone is okay and ready for bed which sometimes means baths. Caring for them also includes caring for their bugs. I have to make sure that the bugs tanks are all clean and bugs are fed. We were laughing the other day because people think because we don't have human kids that we don't do anything with our time!

I never realized until after I got Precious how many bearded dragons are on craigslist, sometimes for very cheap or nothing at all. So many people saying they don't have time for them anymore, it's so sickening. Nothing gets me boiled up more than the recyclable pets mentality. I can't comprehend the mentality of bringing a pet home, into your family, and then suddenly deciding it's not going to work out or you just don't have time for them anymore. I just don't get it and could never do that. Of course, I was very involved with rescue years ago and there were a few situations where we rehomed pets into even better homes than they were in previously. But it's the mentality that gets me...there is no way I could look any of my pets in the eyes and not feel that lifelong connection and responsibility to them no matter what. Even my goldfish! My son got one a year ago and she's getting quite big, upgraded the tank and she only seemed to grow more in it. My son was scared one day and he asked "If she gets too big, will we have to find someone with a pond who will take her?" I told him "No, we'll just have to setup an even bigger tank down in the basement but she's not going anywhere."

Way to go-I feel the same way. I have a senagal parrot, and sometimes he drives me nuts but he is in the terrible 2-stage and he's was a rescue not fed properly no veggies, no good food and just thrown around in general-When i got him I was told he was eating on his own and 9-weeks old. He was not even feathered up yet. and was just dropping his seed, so out came the syringe and I hand fed him for 3-months. That is how weaned he was.i figured he was about 5-weeks. but now he is a beautiful boy-and I was offered $1000.00 for him by a breeder and of course it was not going to happen he's Mommie's boy.and he's here for life.Should I pass away he has a great home to go to. river-7
