hi Everyone
Reptar is a Juvenile BEARDIE with a big appetite and buying crickets every week has gotten quite pricy and incon since more of them die. I have been intres in starting a discoid roach colony for her but didn’t know where to start. I was hoping someone with experience with roach colony’s could help me? Thanks!

Look for established colonies on Craigslist or you'll be spending a fortune or waiting a year before you can feed off. If there are none, then wait and check every day and/or expand your search to all cities within a 4 hour drive because this is a warp speed shortcut worth taking by all means. I mean established colonies from guys who wanna dump the whole thing with thousands of roaches on you equipment and all cus they're done herping, NOT colony kits of 10 males, 20 females in a $3 Goodwill tote and some egg crates for $50.

Sorry, I just realized you said Discoid. I thought you said Dubia. Discoids are way way harder to find on Craigslist because most ppl use Dubia even though Discoids grow and reproduce faster. You might have to shell out like $300 for a large colony shipped on eBay or something but in the end, if I can't find any, Discoids are worth it getting a starter pack and growing it out as a last option while I wouldn't do it with Dubias cus it's guaranteed that you'll find a great deal on a huge Dubia colony before your starter pack is done growing to a point where you can feed off.

Ok thanks for your help it’s really appreciated and helpful! I have a small BEARDIE and just don’t know if the big dubia will eat the small Dubia (I am ok with Dubai or discoid). Sorry for the stupid question I just don’t know how the bugs work and if the big ones will eat the little ones?

You've got a lot of research to do, it looks like. Roach colonies are by no means guaranteed easy success. Do read up. As for your cannibalism question, no, they only eat each other after death. Otherwise nobody would be able to start up a colony with babies getting munched on by the adults.

Discoid Advantages:
Grow faster
Grow larger
Reproduce twice as fast

Dubia Advantages:
Cheaper and easier to find established colony
Can be sexed easy from above view making it easy to know how many extra males you can feed off

With 1 beardie, a big established Dubia colony should be enough, but if you get more beardies and can use all the roach meat you can get, then Discoids are the long term correct choice.
