My bearded dragon has had diarrhea for a while ( 2 months or so ) and I find it concerning. My bearded dragon also has droopy eyes which is also concerning. My dad also gets upset when I bring up pet visits because he can't afford it and says I worry to much and that the pet is bringing me too much anguish. What should I do if I can't take him to to the vet.

Can you tell us a little bit about your beardie and his set up? What you feed him? How he's acting? Maybe a picture of your beardie and his set up.

Having a little background about your beardie will help us help you and your beardie.

He's acting normal, he runs around his tank a lot because of his reflection, he bask sometimes, and runs real fast when he hunts. I feed him crickets or acorn squash and feed him twice a day. His tank is usually at 100 and he almost always is in the basking side, he's in a 55 gallon by the way.

I've had it for 4 months and I got it as a baby, so maybe 5 months( I'm not sure how old they are when they are sold).

Do you know how long he is? Do you have any recent pictures of him?

Usually they are about 2 months at the pet store. Most breeders don't release them for sale until they are 8 weeks old.

Has he ever been to the vets?

Where do you get your crickets?

Has he EVER had a solid poop? Can you get a picture of his poop?

There are probiotics you can order online that would help his belly and gut flora.

Do you dust his crickets with calcium and vitamins?

What kind of lights do you have?

Do you have a UVB? UVA?

How long do you keep the lights on?

like the others have mentioned: need more info and pictures..runny poop can be a number of things, do you feed hornworms? does he drink alot of water? Off the bat his temps are not hot enough for babies should be up towards 107F
Take a few and read the new comer info link that you'll find under several of our comments as we've put together a bunch of helpful info to help guide folks..
I would continue to talk to your parents on taking him to see a reptile vet as it really is their responsibility and if your dragon is suffering that's not fair and he could get worse.. If your unable to afford the care and vet visits you can check into rescues in your area or talk to a reptile vet and see if they will take him on and give him the care he needs and find another home for him..
I'm sorry your having to go thru this I hope that your Dad comes around and does the right thing..

I have UVB lights, I dust all of his crickets ( he got MBD 2 months ago ) the lights are on 14 hours a day, he doesn't drink any water ( I will bath him more and get a dropper ) He has had solid poop when he was younger. And here's a feces photos and dragon photo.

I'm sorry this is happening for your guy. You mentioned that "he got MBD 2 months ago" what exactly is the brand name of the uvb you are using? (There are some that just aren't very good out there) Not using the proper UVB will cause this in these guys .

Like Hdrydr stated, his temps are not high enough and honestly a vet would really be helpful if the diarrhea has been on going. Prices differ depending on location and the particular vet office but usually they will do an exam and than a fecal. Even those who seem a bit on the pricey side usually don't charge a large amount to do both.

You really need to have a vet take a look at him. You're parents shouldn't have bought you a pet if they can't financially take care of it. It's a living human life just like a dog or cat and as long as you are their responsibility, whatever pets they buy you are their responsibility too.

If you can gather 12.50 and mail a stool sample to doctor dragons, they can test it there. And antibiotics can be bought at tractor supply and other farm stores. The follow up sample is totally free through them, and they can help you with how much antibiotics to give, and how long. Also, you should try other veggies beyond just butternut squash. Collard greens, mustard greends, dandelion greens (not wild), escarole: all of these are good options, and are very cheap.

Hop on facebook and search doctor dragons. Send them a message and see what they have to say. Helena will probably be the one that you speak with, and she is fantastic! Hang in there, and don't give up on your little companion just yet. There are ways around close minded parents.

In the mean time, get your temps dialed in and make sure your husbandry is on point. Hdrydr31 can help you get all of that figured out :)

Are these current pictures? Ok a few things/ideas to start......
1. Get a variety of greens the best are: Collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion greens. These have tons of vits that they need and once adults they typically transition to greens/veggies as the primary diet.
2. What type of UVB do you have? Is it a long tube style or is it a small coil bulb? If it's a coil it should be changed out to a min of (it is better than the coil but a T5 is best) Reptsun T8 UVB.. With the better choice but more pricey would be Reptisun T5 HO 10.0 UVB (T8 bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months, T5 bulbs to be changed 1 time a year)
3. Get your temps up and keep good husbandry.

What makes you say he's got MBD?

I think he has mbd because he's got a crooked spine and he didn't have a uvb light for 2 months because the bulb I had at the time wasn't a UVB bulb. I fixed that issue and he's essentially back to normal in that regard (I gave him calcium crickets got him a UVB bulb and sunlight). My dad is considering a vet more now but not until 2weeks which is his next paycheck, I'll also look into messaging doctor's and mailing diarrhea samples.

That is wonderful that your dad is now open to the vet :) I can completely understand the money concern I'm sure your dad has other financial priorities he must put first. Just remember Google is your friend. Search different vets that see reptiles near you and call or email them and ask how much they would charge you for everything. Until you can have his feces sampled I would keep him well hydrated by giving frequent baths and daily mists. Try to stay positive, a lot of beardies go through this and I'm willing to bet it's probably something that can be easily fixed with the right treatment. Also make sure he is basking throughout the day and especially after he eats.
Wishing you the best of luck!

Ok next question could the crooked spine be a birth defect? was it always like that? Just putting it out there.
I am very glad to hear that your dad is coming along as if it were your dog or yourself you wouldn't wait 2+ months to see a doctor if you had persistant runs...
Check out dr dragon and send out your sample just the poop no urates..
