Dandelion greens

Ok so I have had my sunfire BD for a week and he eats crickets and repti/Phoenix worms like a champ. He is still finding his way around greens. I bought dandelions greens today and since I myself have been on a gluten free diet I have been eating a lot more healthier. I tasted the dandelion greens today and yuk very bitter. Now wonder why my guy didn't eat them. Anyone have luck with dandelions? I know they are on the list to be very good but eww if I think they taste bad I'm sure he does too. I'm gonna try mustard and collards both which I like too. I would welcome your feedback as I am a new BD owner.

LOL - So by that reasoning, does that mean that you must like the taste of the crickets & worms, because your BD does ... They have an altogether different taste palate to ours. I have not had any of my dragons dislike Dandelion, once they have taken to eating Greens of course. If your dragon is young, it is not uncommon for them to be greens picky if they take to them at all in the beginning.

Good Luck

Welcome to the forum! Chances are your dragon doesn't mind the bitterness as much as you do. As Germ said, if he's young, it may take him some time to start eating greens. Keep trying different kinds and eventually he'll come around

Chocolate covered meal worms and crickets are quite tasty LOL. Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to go to the store today and pickup some collards too.

My dragon used to only eat dandelion greens and they had to be all green. She stopped being a big salad eater but she'll nibble on whatever I give her. A few of the greens on the "approved" list are bitter or spicy. I once made a nice salad out of mustard greens to take to work. We were all trying to eat better and "Dr. Oz" said it was the best. Well mustard greens tastes like well MUSTARD! Needless to say the salad didn't go over too well!

Woo hoo. I have been only putting greens in the morning with a couple mealworms to make the greens move. Finally today Sunny finally ate the greens on his own !

When it comes to non-live food, my dragon likes the following, in this order:

Adult beardie pellets (I have heard some owners saying their dragon only likes certain colors, but my dragon gobbles them down indiscriminently).
Any fruit (but I rarely give her any, usually not more than 2-3 times per month). Her favorites seem to be mangos, pineapple, and grapes. She doesn't seem to care for apples.
Acorn squash.
Mustard greens.
Collard greens.

I will tell you this: from time to time her tastes change too. At first she didn't seem to like fruit until one day I gave her some fresh pineapple (cut seconds before I gave her some), which she literally attacked. Then she started eating grapes and mango, when she wasn't before. It took forever to get her to eat greens, which were the first non-live foods she ate. Wen I introduced acorn squash she really took an immediate liking to it.

The big surprise for me was the pellets, though. I didn't expect her to like them, and convinced myself I'd give them to the feeders to gut-load because I was certain she would ignore them. I soaked them in water and she just went nuts for them right away!
