Just some background. Butcher is probably seven years old now and I got him back in September 2020 out of a neglected situation. He had some stuck shed on him, but I didn't realize until recently how bad it was. I think he has some tail rot because the other day some of his scales started coming off close to the tip of his tail and today the tip fell off. Now its all red and meaty. I made an appointment, but no one could get me in sooner than this Saturday. Currently I am soaking his tail in betadine water solution and appling a triple antibiotic without the pain killer. Should I be doing anything else until then?
Apart from the tail soaks, a couple times a week since we have gotten him we have been giving him a bath since I noticed the stuck shed on his stomach and on his face so I was surprised that it didn't help with the tail. However, once I noticed I took a soft toothbrush and gently started to try to get the shed off on his tail and it seemed to be working now the tip of his tail has fallen off and I'm not sure if that was my doing.

Unfortunately you are kinda doing everything you can right now ,, if you can put some manuka honey on the wound that’d really help him out, the honey promotes healing, since the tip has already fallen off, your job is trying to get it to stop spreading, keeping it clean (id put a bandaid on his tail so nothing can get on it) , the vet will probably give you meds for him , please look over his toes really good too.

That happened with Cleo's tail basically that is good news if her tail fell off (I know shockingly) that means that the tail rot is kind of gone and it can no longer cause their tail to go septic or let any infections into their blood stream. Do keep up with the betadine baths (5 minutes twice a day) and the topical antibiotic, make sure you keep his tank clean so that he can't get any infections (truly unlikely though) and there shouldn't be much or anything to worry about until his vet appointment on Saturday.

Thank you for the reply! I think his toes are okay. They’re all still there (surprisingly) but the really long ones are all a little wonky looking. I don’t see any shed on them though so maybe they’re just suppose to look like that. I’ll give him another soak tonight and watch over them as well.

Thanks for the reply Emilia! :) I have been suspecting for a while that it was tail rot at the end because his tail was so dark, but I also just thought he was always stressed out. Thankfully we lost maybe half an inch and you can’t even really notice it.
