so currently my beardie is in a 40 gallon breeder, hes doing perfectly fine and im sure hed be fine in that for the rest of his life but i have to cut down my custom tortoise enclosure (currently 4’x8’x3’) due to moving and wanting to put a bed on top of it and with the scrap wood left over after cutting it down i was going to make a 4’x2’x16” enclosure for him! was just curious about what suggestions youd have for lighting and substrate? i know what lighting to use, ive had him for a year now and have got that all sorted just havent the slightest clue as how to mount it! same with substrate, i currently use repticarpet but that doesnt seem practical for a 4x2 tank

So I guess I'm confused are you going to be housing your beardie in the cut down enclosure or do you actually have a tortoise?

both, the cut down enclosure is going to be 4ft x 8ft x 1.5ft for the tortoise. the beardie tank is going to be 4ft x 2ft x 1.5 ft

Typically 18" deep is recommended for beardies as they should be able to turn around without touching the sides and since most beardies get 18" long 16 is kinda small.

I went and got bulb holders, bulb holders mounts, and wire for 10 dollars. And I bought hooks for the light holder.
