Pogie- yes she is a little over a year old and loves her bath. it hurts when she bites though and she goes to town on crickets and mealworms...lol...she fun to have around
JustaV, can you PM me how to care for a hedgehog. My husband is wanting one and I was going to surprise him with one but want to know how to care for it first.
staylor - I just wanted to let you know I gt your message im at work right now and as soon as I get a sec I will let you know....They are not hard to take care of you just have to make time to spend with them since they are nocturnal ( been told you can train them to change- but i dont like to change what's natural)
staylor - Good Morning (7:18am here) ...... I may not take care of my hedgeie by the book but ive had her for a year and she is happy and healthy. I have a very very large cage sort of the size of a large dog kennel but would put hamsters in. She has a metal wheel that is mesh like pattern so her feet dont get stuck in the holes as she runs.....but I had to buy the largest wheel I could find. I took the bottom to a small hamster cage and put it inside this one. I use aspen bedding inside both the cage and the bottom of the other. you can train them to use a litter box but ive had no luck. What Kush does do is treat the smaller box as her "room". Its where she sleeps and I keep her food and water in there as well. So she has a clean area. she will snuggle with a blanket but no always. I put water in a bowl for her it seemed to be easier for her to drink out of instead of a water bottle. Ok food, everyone has their opinions and there is pre made "hedgehog" food but its hard to find unless ordered online. I buy cat food, yes I said cat food....but you have to read the nutrition labels. you need cat food with the higest amount of protein and the lowest amount of fat and the protein should be at least 20 higher than the fat. The image below is the same set up I have before i found a bigger cage, minus her "blanket" ( i use her blanket to get her out.)
She eats crickets and meals worms as snacks....she like veggies and turkey oh my gosh she will go crazy for turkey. I give her a bath once a week which consist of putting her in the kitchen sink and useing the hose as if she was taking a shower, no soap just water....then I wrap her up in a towel (she loves bath time) sometimes ill sit next to the firepalce or a heater as they need to stay warm if they go less then 70 degrees they go into hibernation ( not good for African Pygmy's which mine is).
I hope this helped I know its just a quick overall but if you have any more question just let me knw
