Toby, my beardie, is darker than usual. He's still young (under a year) would it be because he's still growing or any ideas? The temp and humidity is normal and he's not gaping.

What do you mean by "darker than usual"? He appears darker than he did a few days or weeks ago? Depending on the dragon, the colors will set in as he ages...

Just double check your temps. Mine is darker in the mornings during the 1st 2-3 hours as she is still warming up. Darker is usually a sign of being a bit too cold. (There could be other reasons but this is the most common)
What do you measure your temps with?
Also remember with the winter on hand, ambient temps are cooler so your temps may drop due to this

It's one of those dinky plastic gauges but it's been pretty accuarate. He also isn't under the basking light or on his heated rock when I notice, so I don't think it's the temp. I usually notice he's darker in the evening

Please be very careful with heat rocks, they are dangerous for Bearded Dragons.

Dragons cannot feel heat from underneth they can only feel heat from above and the heat rocks have been know to malfunction and seriously burn dragons and other lizards.

Thank you for showing me that! I'll definitely keep a close eye, he doesn't go on it much he prefers basking but that's definitely a scary idea to happen to my little buddy :(

Temperature, lighting & mood affect coloration. Check your temps. If you can pick up a digital thermometer with probe it will make life much easier. 9 times out of 10 those dial thermos are off by a few degrees. Stay away from the heat rocks, just 2 be safe. What was mentioned above is 100% fact & should be taken into consideration by everyone that chooses 2 use them.

I'm No expert so its only a thought. I get most of my advice directly from the BBC's go to man. Do u bathe ur dragon? One suggestion now looking at pic is, over exposure to moisture I'm not saying it his but a fungle bacteria can form if this is the case . Does the are smell? Is it sluffy? From the picture I believe a trip back to the vet.

The coloring on his sides are what I'm worried about because its so much different than from the middle of his back.

Is there a lot of high stress going on with him or is your temps right. You need a temp gun for the best accurate measurement but stress can do it or high humidity. Where do you have his set-up at ? Also young bearded dragons will change color a lot.

No stress, the temp is consistent and he doesn't seem to be gaping and his body is warm. His cage is on a desk in the corner of my room, away from an opening window. The humidity on my gage is at 20% so it is getting kind of humid. Are there certain ways that would help lower the humidity?

You can get rid of his water bowl and give him bathes once to three times a week for 20 mintues or depending on the substrate you use will keep the humidity high so check your substrate.

How sure are you?
I had those when i started out and they were way off. Once i bought digitals with ptobes i was amazed at what the temps really were and my dragons whole demeanor changed for the better once i fixed the temps.

Temps (Accurate temps) are the utmost important part of your husbandry (besides UVB). It plays vital roles in digestion, body functions, metabolism, absorption, activity levels, appetite. Basically every part the dragon needs to be happy and healthy
Please considder getting an accurate temp gun or digi with probe.

As for bathing, mine HATED it at first, she would try to get out, jump, squirm etc.......with time she has come to LOVE it now and swims and drinks every time, she even tries to get away from me when its time to get out of the tub

Be carefull with batheing ur beardie. If u allow ur dragon to suck up the water the excesive moisture on skin can become fungal bacteria growth. How is ur little fella today?
