In the process of cleaning Sampsons tank and was surprised at the amount of fluids and other stuff that had made its way underneath the tiles we use. I'm sure some of it is just plain water from his water dish but some of it looks like it should require full decon hazmat suits before handling. After cleaning everything up I took a dog pee pad and laid it in the bottom of the tank prior to the tiles. I imagine one could use paper towels with a somewhat similar effect. The pee pads use a silica gel which absorbs liquids and has an outside liner that prevents leak thru. This should make our next clean up a snap.

I've heard that there are health hazards to the silicone gel for both humans and animals. Something about the dust particles getting into the air and breathing it in. I was going to use a product in little packages to help with humidity in the summer but someone warned me against them.

Silica gel is non toxic. Silica gel in an enclosed vessel, such as the pee pad or those little packets, does not produce dust particles.
