Ok so Charlie is shedding now, got him friday (12wks old) I lightly mist him once a day which he happily sits there and sucks drops off his nose. lol. anyway is there anything specific I need to do for him during shed. He only ate maybe 8 crix yesterday. now i know why. it's mainly his tail and back that are shedding, not sure if he was in shed when i got him friday, left him to pretty much settle in once got him home, didnt wanna stress him too much.

at this age he will shed often. i suggest that when they are in shed that you soak them in luke warm water for a bout 10 mins every two to three days. you can get a small plastic tub almost anywhere and put just enough water in it so it starts to ease up his back without him floating around. i still use tubs on my adults but i also have an extra bathtub that i use for them sometimes. its fun to watch them swim around. anyway, he'll probably act crazy and try to jump out at first but thats normal. some beardies just do not like baths but they almost have to have them. if your lucky, he'll drink a little water and then poop while in the water and save you from having to clean his tank. as he gets older, i still recommend a good soak once or twice a week. takin a beardie to the vet to get sub q fluids because they're dehydrated isnt pretty or cheap.

also dont be afraid to help remove the dead skin. you dont want a "double shed" to build up. if it's ready, it will come off easily. if it still tugs on them when you try to pull it off then it's not. it's not rocket science and you'll get use to it quickly. as hey gets a little bigger, when you try to peel his tail, dont go lenghtwise but peel it around his tail like your wrapping tape around a wire. you can usually get it all off in one piece this way and be easy around his vent. also, dont worry if doent shed evenly. some will shed a leg one week and then their back the next. they also shed the insides of their eyelids and nasal cavities. dragon boogers:eek:

cool thanks, Charlie has just had his first bath, wasnt impressed and first and hung onto my arm for dear life :) hehe.but dripped a little on his nose and down his back, then eased him in, still not impressed but atleast he stayed in for a min or two before hightailing it outta there, and being redunked :p dont worry was just enough water to get his little shoulders when he relaxed :) he's shed all his tail off whilst i was out getting him a new Rock to sleep on. but i'll keep in mind the helping him shed if it''ll come off.

Easy Richard
You really should never "help" you dragon by puling off a shed. This can actaully hurt them, think back to pulling off skin when you peel from a sun burn. You can cause a sore.
If they have a spot that is not shedding properly use a little Aloe on that spot to help soften the skin. Dragons will take care of their sheding and removal of the dead skin.

ive dealt with dragons for a long time and there are some places where shed simply wont come off by itself. ifs its crispy and comes off easily, there is absolutely no harm in helping. you do have to know when to stop. im not trying to be an ass but i do mostly rehab for sickly dragons and there isnt much i have'nt seen, touched, pulled on played with or payed for! ive spent a lot of time in the vets office (exotic vet) and i wouldnt post something that i think is harmful.:D

Well I am happy for you.
But when you give advice like that to a NEW owner who has not had all the wonderful experience you have had you may want to also include a warning that you can hurt the animal if you are not careful, and maybe also include alternative options that allow the animal to deal with a troublesome shed themseleves.
Good thing you were not trying to be an A**.

Very true. i'm not a new owner so to speak. when I was in college I qualified in caring for exotic animals but was a few years back, so i forgot some stuff, and well beardies were always my fav to look after, breed etc :) and i appreciate any help given :)
