A CHE screws into a normal bulb type socket & unless you live in an igloo ;) , a 60W will be more than enough to take the edge off on the cooler nights.

It looks like this:

Where I live, here in Canada, we frequently get outside temps in the winter of -50 & at times Colder. We have a really neat invention to keep our homes comfortable inside, it's called a 'Furnace' :). *Chuckles* Just Funnin' ...

As mentioned, it fits into a normal socket, pretty much any dome fixture will work, it would be better to have one that has a Porcelain or Ceramic socket though, because they get quite hot & could possibly melt most plastic sockets. I would recommend one rated for better than 100W. As far hooking it up to a thermostat, if it is necessary, that would depend on the type you are using.

Good Luck,

the habistat dimming thermostat is very easy to hook up. You will plug the light socket that houses your CHE into one of the cords, the second cord has a temp sensor one it (Make sure this is TOUCHING the substrate in the viv) and the third cord plugs intop the wall. Yout set your temp at 65F measure it every now and then to make sure it is working properly and otherwise forget it.

Like Germ I live in Canada and the only time my house drops below 65F is when the power goes out int he winter. :)
