Hello! I am new to this forum. I have 2 pygmy bearded dragons. Got them when they were 4 weeks old. They are now 4 months old. One of them you can pick up and pat, very placid. Does not care. The other, when you try and grab him/her (don't know yet) races around the enclosure like crazy. Actually, the only time you can pat, is when the belly is full and resting. They have a good size enclosure with a cave, driftwood and plenty of food and water. They love crickets, mealworms, broccoli, snow peas, carrot and lettuce. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

First, welcome...
Second... coming in from above tends to mimic predator actions...
Come from in front slooooowly... this is a trust issue... It will take time to gain this dragon's trust, but well worth the effort...
Oh... now please... some pictures of those lil darlins ?

Now, feeding could be better...
Allow me to suggest this list as a guide .

Green highlighted are for daily foods... Black highlighted for treats, 1-2 times a week.
Hope this helps out !

Welcome ;D

What do you mean by pygmy? Are you refering to P.henrylawsoni?? If so they tend to be a bit more flighty than P.vitticeps naturally.

Welcome!! :D

I'm in the same boat. I put my hand in my baby boy's tank and once I touch him, he goes nuts. Something I'm trying to do to allow him to calm down is once I put my hand in his tank, I pet his head or rub his chin. Sometimes he becomes calm after that. Another thing that works better is if he goes wild in his tank, I still try to pet him, but not try to pick him up, and walk away. I leave him for a little bit (like 3 minutes or so). Then I come back, and he's usually more calm and allows me to pick him up. But I make sure to still pet him before I pick him up. ;D

Maybe this can help you.... and me! ;)

Patience is key :)

Oh and one more thing.... share some pics please!

Thanks for welcoming me. Didn't realize how many people love their beardies. The food table for the dragons is a lot. Mine eat what my cockatiel eats except for seed. If I give my cockatiel carrot tops then the lizards get some as well. They are p.henrylawsoni. I like the size and 2 look cute in my enclosure. Thanks for the advice on handling. I will give it a go. They love dandeloin flowers. Make sure they haven't been sprayed with pesticide. Thanks for all your advice and I will post some pics soon.

welcome to the forum ;D pics are a must on here lol, just be patient with them and things will work out fine, you could also try and put a used unwashed t-shirt or summut with your scent on to get them used to your scent hope this helps everyone else has filled you in with everything else it seems, just remember trust is the key i always tend to as i have a top opening viv i put my hand in slowly move towards them and stroke their heads or chin to gain trust before i pick them up. if you rush in to grab them your immitating preditor movements, just be slow and calm

Hello! Thanks so much for the info. Have learned a lot. I have been patting my beardie on the chin. Not for long because he scatters. He loves his veggies so I hand feed him but he still does not want to be picked up. Yet the other beardie couldn't care less. The breeder said that he is the observant and careful one. He's on the ball. He also said, if your not happy bring him back and you can get another one. Different personality I guess.

I wouldn't give up on him, quite yet... give it some more time... Once the trust is gained, you'll be partnered up with Two great life long friends!
