can any one please explain to me why infra red heat bulbs or coloured bulbs are bad for bearded dragons. I thought that the infra red give of really good heat. so why are they so bad. I am still learning and want to get things right

hey - it's not so much that the bulbs are BAD, it's more that they're not good. These bulbs are typically used at night to keep our beardies warm - if the ambient temperature (the temp in your rooms) gets to 65 de F or below, we like to keep our kids a bit warmer at night. The red light (or other coloured light) can cause sleep disruption. No light at night is best. Try a ceramic heat emitter. During the day, these lights don't provide the uva / uvb our babies need. OK ??

ok I have been using a infra red heat bulb during the day to heat the viv at night I turn all lights of. So can I still use the infra red bulb during the day as the heat bulb

yes - you can use it to supply heat if its needed, but you really do need to get some uva / uvb in there, too, please

Yep the colored lamps like the red one give off light even though it's not much dragons can see a wide range of the color spectrum... Their 3rd eye or their perietial eye the 1 scale on top of their head is what senses shadow's from above..So with any type of lighting at night time will keep them on edge and from fully sleeping..
