we're going camping at friday harbor in washington state. we went last year just days before summer solstice. i guess they do a little get-together and sing for the orcas. orcas are my favorite animals, have been since i was a kid. i think they're the most beautiful creatures. i'm so excited to go back there. last year we only saw 2 whales, because there aren't as many salmon as there used to be and they were all out searching, except these 2. mama comet and baby spock from K-pod. i'm posting a video from when i went whale watching with a friend. this is double-stuff looking at the boat and the humans. sorry about the shakiness. i got so excited from seeing him that i ran the length of the boat to get a better view :p

Thanks for sharing your video. We love to go to the Oregon beach to whale watch. Sometimes we see lots of whales and other times only a few.

Yeah, it was funny to listen to the crowd as the whale surfaced each time. I wonder if the whales ever psyke out the crowd by acting like they're going to surface, then don't just to hear the reaction! LOL!

lol i wouldn't be surprised if they ever psyched out a crowd like that. they're smart little suckers.
the first time i went whale watching, we were in a boat that was low in the water, not like a yacht or anything, but like stick-your-hand-out-and-touch-the-water low, and an orca surfaced right off the side. my mom says she could have stuck her hand out and touched it it was so close. i was so mad because the batteries fell out of my camera and i didn't get a picture of it X(
the lady that's screaming so much is actually the lady who works for the tour company lol.

That was awesome. I bet you are pumped to experience it again. I agree that Orca's are beautiful animals.

We went a couple of years ago to San Diego for whale watching. The whales were heading to Baja to have their babies. So, not so much jumping, but plenty of fins. We road in a Navy SEAL Rigid Inflatable Boat. It was incredible experience. Quite surreal.

we're back from camping. we had a great time, except for our second night we had a baby raccoon rip into our tent twice. we saw the whales 3 out of 5 days. it was great to see that they're hanging around more. we actually saw double-stuff, the whale in the video i showed earlier. he's definitely gotten bigger. the other night we could hear them swimming by. every minute we could hear a big "puuhhh" as they took a breath. we saw 6 breaches, a couple spyhops, some loptailing and a fin slap. they were pretty active. it was awesome! we also saw quite a few black foxes, turkey vultures, deer, and ravens. my mom saw the back of a minke whale. we're definitely glad to be home with a shower and comfy beds and seats. our babies seem to have grown while we were gone for 4 days! lol

Welcome back! Sounds like a very adventurous camping trip. Glad to hear nothing major came out of the nosy baby raccoon.
