Bugsy's daily salad is Endive, Escarole, Dandelion leaves, Collard or Mustard greens, which he gobbles up with reckless abandon. Should I cut back on his Calcium supplement?

From what I've read and understand Beardies get their calcium and vitamins through their lighting and food. I believe the calcium they get comes from the insects we feed them, but regardless there isn't an adequate amount in the insects so we still have to supplement them regardless of how much/how often they eat. I could be wrong so if someone knows differently, please chime in!

The greens I give are all high in calcium and he eats those twice a day.

I wish someone else would give their input here. I know they may seem high in calcium but I'm fairly sure you still need to supplement him/her. Maybe cut back on supplementing but not stop all together. I feed collard, mustard, turnip and when possible dandelion greens to my Bayne and I still supplement just to make sure he's getting the adequate amount. MBD is too real and scary a thought for me. I'd be devastated if anything happened to my little man, so its not worth the risk to me.

You can use calcium with vitamin d3 if you have a smaller coil uvb bulb instead of the tube style. If not, use the one without vit d3.
Depending upon the age of your dragon depends on how often you need to be supplementing him

When you feed great greens they are getting good vits and calcium but you do still want to use supplements. If you click on the link below several of our comments we have put together information for reference and we've done a supplement guide to help.. Since you sometimes never know just how much they are taking in each setting it's always good to add.. Glad to hear that your dragon is liking eating their greens as some don't :)

Sorry, I've been offline for the past couple days. I sprinkle some calcium on his bugs in the morning and a vitamin supplement on his salad in the evening, daily. I've had him for three months and he's starting his fourth shed.
Thanks for the help.

Its always good to dust the bugs, as they have a poor Ca: P ratio generally. If you are feeding a good mix of greens and veggies, then you dont really need to dust the salad that often. The multivitamin will help round things out, so you could get by with it once a week on the salad.
