Hi, I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone might be able to help me with my bearded dragon. It recently developed this bulge. I took it to an exotic vet a few days ago and they took a sample of it but found nothing. My vet has never seen anything like this before and thinks it might be a miniature scortal sack however, he isn't entirely sure. He suggested I reach out in hopes that someone else has come across this and might know what it might be.

Going to get some help on this- it looks like he is impacted - when was the last poop? What is his diet and how big are the insects? What are you using for substrate? Basking temps and how are you getting them? What kind of uvb a coil of long tube fixture?

I had one person respond back this is what they said
Possibly from impaction the swelling of the entire area. Feed him watered down canned pumkin, baby food squash or sweet potato with a syringe or however he might take it. If there's impaction that can help but there may be more to it.
Go over your lighting -- he looks really young -- he should be fed insects no bigger than the space between his eyes -- but for now do as my friend has asked w/ the feeding - you can add a couple of drops of olive oil -- what the vent does after he poops you want it to go down -- feed until he poops -- the vet you took him to said nothing about the swelling of the vent ??? If so its time to find a new vet www.arav.org if your in a small town / are type in a bigger cities zip code closest to you -- please answer all my questions in the last post -- this is imperative to your dragons health --

Hi he's pooping regularly and has an appetite. We usually give greens first (kale, mustard greens, and the occasional carrots) then proteins (small crickets, meal worms). As far as substrate we used sand until last week, our vet said the sand might be getting in his food and causing blockage but isn't sure if that's what the bugle is. I was told to use paper towels temporarily. Basking temps are usually between 96-104. For the uvb I used the reptile systems compact pro (23W, 12% UV-B, 30% UV-A) a local bearded dragon owner suggested I try the (13W, 12% UV-A, 30% UV-B) which is what's currently on. If it is impaction how can I help my bearded dragon?

A couple of post up is what was advised to get him to pass the blockage- ok so you got rid of one problem but started a new one-- this one can cause other health issues- so please get rid of the 13 watt coil they are one of the worst uvb's please replace w/ a 24" zoo med fixture this comes w/ a 5.0 bulb good for a back up you want a reptisun 10.0 T 5 22" bulb-- or you can get a Arcadia pro T 5 w/ a 12% bulb - please do this right away he needs this especially w/ him being impacted- when you get the uvb please post back on here and I will help you get it placed for your tank- you can check the pet stores most do not carry 24" fixtures- you can check this website www.pangeareptiles.com look under heat and lighting then fixtures and uvb lights next please get some textured NON adhesive shelf liner cut to the size of your tank easy to clean w/ vinegar and water 50 50 solution- please start on the watered down canned pumpkin plain w/ a couple drops of olive oil and some baby food squash feed till he poops- check post above please

Hi! I went ahead and purchased the light fixtures along with the bulb. A few of my local pet stores were out so I ordered it online and it's excepted to get here no longer then Thursday, I also purchased the non adhesive self linear. I gave him baby food squash and he pooped right away. There is still some swelling so I plan to do this for a couple of days. I was also told I could give warm bathes and belly massages every couple of days to help with blockage. I plan on doing that tomorrow afternoon.

When you get your uvb please post back on here so I can help you get it placed for your tank - distance and placement depends on the screen

Please water the squash down so he's getting hydration this will also help push things thru -- I am gonna find out what foods should be fed after the impaction is thru- going forward please rinse his salads greens before serving that will give him hydration or drop water on his nose or thru a eye dropper
