I just picked up an exo terra 40 gallon low roof tank. Lil man loves it so far. My issue is I cant seem to get the basking temps down. I have a 75 watt spot lamp pointing on the hide in the corner. Im using a infrared temp gun that sways in accurate temps 2-3 degrees. The rock on top measures anywhere from 114 to just below 119. Im assuming im gonna have to drop to a 50 watt bulb? The room is generally low humidity and around the 79 80 temp.

The rock may be heating up please get a different piece of decor- look on PetSmart they have nice decor get something that will give different places to sit it will give a gradient heat that way - I have a piece I can post in the morning - you need temps of 65-75 at nite and basking temps 105-110 - mid tank 90's-- the screen on the tank is a fine mesh or a wide holed type-? This is important

I have a few small pieces on the way I may trade out for. The screen is not a fine mesh. Its the metal circles maybe the diameter of a pen tip.

Is it a real thick heavy screen? If it is I would then unobstruct it - the heavy will cause blockage of the rays
