I have noticed that a lot of people use tile for a flooring. I currently have a walnut substrate.

What is the difference and what are the perks of having tile?

Hello and welcome to our forum. The benefits of tile is that it is much cleaner and safer for a bearded dragon. Tile will not harbor bacteria like walnut shells do. Another benefit of tile is that your beardie will not accidentally ingest the substrate. Walnut can have some sharp edges that could cut your bearded dragon.

Oh, Sandy. It sounds like something that would happen to me. Lol...

I loved it when I switched to tile. I had sand. The viv was so much cleaner. Bernie was famous for whipping it up the sides. Don't know how he managed, but I was constantly cleaning his viv. It looked like a sand storm in it!

I lovvvveeee having tile.
it's extremely easy to clean. it doesn't harbor bacteria like sand does. He can't eat it along with his crickets. I can see if he's pooped. I can see if he's been eating his greens. And it files down his nails :)

i use unscented baby wipes to spot clean. once a week i pull all the tiles out and scrub them with diluted bleach.

Corrine, that is very true. I put a lot of effort into keeping the sand clean. Once when I was changing it out, I forgot to put the piece of material(filter) back inside my shopvac and suddenly, everything seemed a little cloudy in the room! My vac was blowing sand all over. LOL I put the filter on and was vac-ing sand off everything for hours! Never forgot that little piece again!

i bet the room was real "your name!" ;)
