Hello,
I’m hoping to get some advice on brumation. I have a 10 month old male bearded dragon. He is my first so this is all new to me. About two weeks ago I notice he started going in his hide a lot and was barely eating. Of course I was worried and took him right away to see the vet. She did an exam and said she saw no signs of illness. She did a fecal exam and it came back negative for parasites. She said he could be just showing signs for brumation but offer no advice after that. I’ve been trying to do research on it but there seems to be so many different opinions on it. The first thing I’m concern about is, is he really trying to brumate? Is he too young? One day he’ll stay in his hide all day and won’t come out at all, the next day he might come out and bask for a few hours and then go back in. Sometimes he’s sleeping in there and sometimes he’s in there just staring at me. He’s environment hasn’t really changed except it probably gets a little cooler at night but only by a few degrees. I still put a fresh salad in there everyday but I’m pretty sure he hasn’t touched it except that one day when he came out to bask for a few hours he did go over and eat some. I Haven’t offered him any live bugs because I read that he shouldn’t eat live food during brumation…? If that’s wrong please let me know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated….
His uvb is reptisun T5 10.0 34”
Heat lamp is reptizoo 125 watt
Cool side reads 77
Warm side 85
Basking spot 97

Thank you
Erica

Sounds like your lighting is on par -- the T 5 is under a yr or around a yr old? If it is I would change it out-- Hes slowing down and that is normal - keep feeding him his insects -- hes not in brumation I am posting some info on that so he sounds to be fine -- brumation is when they are zonked out --

That was very helpful! Thank you very much.
I forgot to ask is the UVB in the tank or top of screen? Screens will block 30% of the rays if its a fine mesh like a screen door-- wide hole type it can sit on top but the distance for that would 8-10 inches directly above the basking decor piece -- inside the the tank 12-15 inches
