My 8 month old male beardie seems completely fine but today I saw blood on his hammock!! He is house alone, carpet substrate. Diet of crickets, hornworms and greens. Drink water out of the bowl frequently, good temperament. Does anyone know why this might have happened?

He may be impacted- is he pooping? What are you using for a UVB? And basking temps? What are they and how are you taking them? If he is impacted you need to start him on some natural laxatives like canned pumpkin unsweetened applesauce or baby prunes- can you post a pic of his vent please

He is pooping but now that I think about it, it’s not been as ‘full’ or healthy looking as it usually is. I think maybe I will look into that.
I moved him to a bigger tank about 2 weeks ago but I am waiting for the 36 inch UVB tube fixture to come so right now it’s just a coil bulb. There’s a cool side that stays around 75 then there’s a basking spot with a temp of 100-105. The top of his terrarium is all screening and there is a small vent in the front. Picture showing the front vent (but again, the whole top of the tank is screen.

Ok so try the natural laxatives and make sure he's hydrated-- he needs water to help push it thru- it's good you have replaced the coil--- they are NO GOOD-- are you getting a T 8 or T 5? The T 8 MUST go inside the tank--- if it's a T 5 it can sit on top BUT it depends on the screen-- fine mesh it will need to go inside- they different distances to as to where they are placed from basking decor

I just checked and it’s a T8. I’ll make sure I secure it in the cage properly when it comes in. I knew that the coil bulbs are not preferable but I figured it may help while I’m waiting for the new fixture.
He is definitely hydrated, he actually frequently drinks from the bowl and dunks his head in it. He always scares me when I give him a bath, he tries to get his whole head under the water and I panic and take him out because I don’t want him to inhale the water. (The bath is in a Tupperware and the water is very shallow, below his shoulders). But he is always drinking from his bowl. I’ve never had a lizard do that before him. I’m going to try the pumpkin. I actually have pumpkin baby food, he likes it so I’ll give him some of that and a bath with a belly massage. I’ll let you know what happens later tonight when I get home from work. Thanks for looking out and helping me!

Ok when that T 8 comes in you need to have it 6-8 inches directly above the basking decor-- idk why he's dunking his head either-- if he's drinking from his bowl that's good-- dragons really don't need baths unless that is the only way they drink- make sure his salads are rinsed before serving he will get moisture from them - only feed him the pumpkin till he poops and gets it all out--- is his vent swollen? How big are the insects your feeding?

I usually just give him a bath when he’s made a mess in his cage or runs his tail through his poop before I can clean it.
he eats medium-large crickets. Usually about the size of a dime.
I will take a photo of his vent close up when I get home in about an hour. My husband sent me the initial photo of the blood and I just panicked because I can’t do anything from work. I will get that picture to you ASAP.

Ok just make sure he's not eating insects to big for him-- you want them no bigger than the space between his eyes length wise-- if ever in doubt don't feed- feed him the laxatives till he poops it all out then go w/ soft insects like silk worms BSFL - what are you feeding for a insect?

He eats crickets, silkworms, Phoenix worms, hornworms and the occasional waxworm but he definitely prefers the crickets

Ok so w/ the crickets make sure size is appropriate-- that would be the only thing besides a horn worm cuz they get huge- but they are soft so ...

Okay so I think it may be a little swollen. Here’s a few pics.

I have him in warm water and massaged his belly and he pooped while he was in there. It doesn’t look good (not ‘full’ or plump) and it was followed by a little blood.

Ok the UVB should straighten out the poops- he's not been able to absorb/ synthesize the calcium he's been getting- your T 8 should help- let's hope the blood stops here soon- if not you may haft to make a visit to the vet--- here is a website to find a reptile vet in your area NO ENEMAS!!! if you haft to go

You can get some betadine and soak him in it make it look like a weak tea - it's an antiseptic-- don't let him drink it tho--
