black spot at base of tail

Hi everyone,

We have some concern about a black spot at the base of our beardie's tail (see photo). We've read about tail rot and as far as we understand it typically begins at the tip of the tail. Can it also begin at the base?

When she shed about a month ago the tail skin did not shed, and the black spot more or less marks the point between where the skin shed and where it didn't, so we're thinking it's perhaps related to that?

We'd be grateful for any insight!

Thanks,
B & L

Can u post a close up, that doesn’t look to great, only time ive heard of tail rot is from a tank mate nipping it, can u confirm its not a burn or poo? Its in a very Weird spot, get a product called “betadine” water it down with a ratio of 1 part betadine to 5parts water, apply it twice a day for 3 days, i know this is extremely difficult but try to keep the solution on his scales and dont let it seep down on his skin, it wont hurt but if you can dab it on with a cuetip thatd help

Thank you for the replies! I'm attaching a closer, hopefully clearer image. Confident it's not poo. If it's a burn it happened without our noticing, and I guess we'd be surprised as the temperature in the tank never reaches 100. We'll keep an eye on it and if it grows we'll take her to the vet.

That doesn’t look to good, id get a vet appointment asap, and order the betadine, if it is scale rot we need to catch it quickly. In the mean time can you tell us how you’re careing for your beardie? Possibly with pics of the enclosure and your lighting, how old is the dragon? What does it eat? Etc.
