Demani just randomly started doing this one day. Looks an awful lot like gaping, but he does it when he's nowhere near heat. Anyone have any idea why he might be doing this?

He may be doing it for the opposite reason that many do. To take in warm outside air to thermoregulate, because there is not enough heat to warm through the body. It stands to reason that Thermoregulation in this manner would work both ways, just that we see it more often when they are under the light\heat.

Makes perfect sense. I wasn't really worried about him (for once), just curious. I'm still beyond worried about his tail, although I've decided it will either get better, or he'll end up losing it. He's still my pretty boy though. :D

Mine did this the other day during his bath. Not aggressively, just kind of gaping his mouth. He's shedding around his face and bearded right now so he's been puffing up a lot more, so maybe yours is doing the same? If not, then what Germ said!

He is getting ready to shed, but he does this when he isn't shedding at all. At first, I thought it was some kind of show of aggression, but there are no other signs. I can put my finger directly in front of his face while he's doing it. He stops every time. I'm going with Germ's assessment.
