Hi friends - this will be my first beardie with my adopted 3 year old female. She’s in impeccable health (got her checked out by my exotics vet and fecal sample was clean), she loves her salads, Dubia roaches, and super worms. I feed her live insects 3 times a week and she is always ravenous for them. I’ve been keeping an eye on her for brumation signs and she’s certainly slowed down, but on the days I’ve noticed her alert and basking, I have offered her live insects, which she inhales. But she hasn’t had a bowel movement for about a week now (she regularly poops every other day), and hasn’t basked in a while. I gave her a bath a few days ago to try to get things moving and she was very active in the bath, but no bowel movements. I’m getting worried since I’ve feed her live insects twice now and she hasn’t pooped them out. Of note, she will still pick at her greens, so she is still wanting to eat small amounts.

Has anyone had something similar occur? Any tips on what to do or how to get her bowels going?

Thank you, friends!

Dragons can go for weeks out at a time w/ not pooping -- make sure shes hydrated and if you want you can feed her some plain canned pumpkin to make her go to the bathroom-- make sure her surface basking temps are 95-100 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer this is key for starting digestion - a good UVB as well NO coils please- and the bulb is not expired as well --

Thank you! I’ll try that.

Yep, her basking spot reads 95 with a digital thermometer and I use an Arcadia Pro T5 bulb along the top of the enclosure, so not a coil. I’ll try the canned pumpkin! What about fresh? There’s pumpkin aplenty in stores.

You can try the pumpkin - shred it top on fresh salads- the screen on the tank is a fine mesh or wide hole? Is it on top of screen?

On top of fine mesh. I was going to get a UV meter, but they’re fairly pricey and I’ve never had a problem with my beardie basking and stooling before. Also, my bulb is less only a few months old.

Please unobstruct the UVB either take the screen off or get it inside the tank -- 12-15 inches directly above the basking decor piece -- watch the behavior -- screens block 30% of UVB rays
