Beardie eyes?

Helloo, I've had my beardie Persie for about a week now. I just had him on my hand and I noticed that one of his eyes is wide open and the other half open/completley closed. Is this normal or common? It almost looks like he's got a lazy eye. He can definitely see out of it though, I checked. Any ideas as to what it might be? X

Is this all of the time, or only when it is in certain areas of the enclosure or just removed from them? Could possibly be prepping to shed that eye.

It seems to be all the time. I noticed yesterday that his eye was half closed but I assumed both of them were and he was sleepy or something. But today I noticed that his left one is really alert and looking around, and his right one the eye lid is drooped a lot. He's not starting to shed anywhere else yet.

Has it shed recently? BDs will often shed in patchy areas, so shed is still a possibility. You could try putting eye drops, something like 'Clear Eyes', 'Real Tears' or 'Visine', just the regular stuff. Will help clear it out, should there happen to be an irritation.

So I took Persie to the vet today, and she said its probably just something he was born with and nothing to worry about. She looked in his mouth to see if there was an abscess causing the problem, but there was nothing. He puffed his beard out at her when she did that! It made me laugh. She said he's in very good condition, and he's got no signs of shedding yet. So I'm happy with that :)

I did not realize you could use Visine or something similar to that on a beardies eye. What kind of symptoms or problems would you have to notice in your beardies eyes to make the decision to use Visine or something similar? Is it helpful for an eye infection if that occurs, or anything else?

You'd be surprised how many remedies they sell for us human beings can also be used for our little friends. I use Hydrogen Peroxide on my fish. Instead of using the $8.00 or so petshop remedy, I keep a .99 cent bottle of HP. I also use Erythromycin.

And Visine and Pepto on my dogs, depending on whats going wrong or what the case might be.

That's great information to know! Gosh, I learn new things all the time from this website! I know I say that a lot, but it just shocks me every time because pet shops don't even know half the stuff everyone here knows(as we all know) and it just makes me so sad! I actually went to a different pet shop this week to get my crickets because PetSmart had way to small crickets, and I had to tell the OWNER how to take care of the baby beardie she just got in her shop! She knew NOTHING about how to take care of the poor thing! I was stunned! If you are going to take the responsibility of opening up a pet store and having live animals, at least know how the !@#$ to take care of the poor animals! JEESH!!!!
