Hi,

so my baby beardie has had this black spot (circled in red) since I got him which was nearly 3weeks ago, he is just about to shed in that area so I’m hoping it goes with that, I just wanted to check it’s nothing to worry about...

I would say its some sort of shed -- see if it disappears w/ the shed coming on

Its some dirt or something, sometimes scales will turn dark, even black , it should go back to normal after a couple sheds :)

If its more than 2-3 scales then id be a tad concerned, but usually its just some bark, dirt, poo, or something stabbed them creating a scab.

So I have placed him in a low baking dish, within his enclosure, sometimes he will scramble and sod off and sometimes he will let me run water down his back from the dish that I’m kinda holding him over/in, his tail is fully submerged. I have a deeper casserole dish (laughing my head off) that I could put him in? I wasn’t really sure if I should just plonk him in, he really doesn’t like it!

I have been misting his back and tail everyday and using a dropper to put water on his snout also.

haven’t started nail trimming but his nails are pretty short and he scratches the rock and slate tile occasionally.

its touch and go as to when he is up for holding, he hasn’t stopped shedding, if is not one area it’s another, it seems the day before he actually sheds, he doesn’t want me anywhere near him.

When steffern was a baby she hated it too, just keep up with it, i do it once a week (my girl isn’t a “poop painter” so she’s rather “clean”) have a soft toothbrush, scrub him , his vent , id keep them short, and with purpose, you may not want to mist him, the water droplets can create a magnifying effect and burn him if hes under his heat lamp.
In a bath You want the water to be just barely riding up his back legs, you mainly wanna b cleaning him tum.

So do you think put him in something he can’t jump/climb out of? At the moment he has an easy escape so I either hold him or he’s gone lol!!!

“experts” say they can tell even when they’re hatchlings…. Idk about that though,…. Do u have any reptile shops nearby? Maybe take him in one day and see what they think.

So I did the deeper dish for his bath, he stayed in for about 5mins and actually managed to jump out, he really can jump high!! But here’s a pic of him after.....

If it helps a lot of the time beardies can get blemishes or dark pigment spots especially when they get older. Almost think of it as a freckle, my Cleo does have a couple of them littering her body. Some have gone away some haven’t, it’s definitely not anything to be concerned about again they get these blemishes because they are able to change the pigment of their scales, it’s just some decide to say black. You can always contact your vet if you are still worried about it or if it hasn’t gone away, but this is what my vet told me when I informed her about Cleo’s freckles

Thank you, maybe I am worrying about nothing. I will keep an eye on it but You are probably right, and how cute if it is a freckle ❤️
