"Bearded Dragons and Learned Behaviors: Is One Copying the Other?"

Hi! I have a pair of bearded dragons—two females. They have been living together for a few months now, and there hasn’t been any conflict between them. I got them a new enclosure when I bought the second one. Thanks to that, I have probably prevented any conflicts or territorial issues (since both of them were introduced to the new enclosure at the same time).

I would like to share something I have discovered—the younger beardie has learned some behaviors from the older one. For example, she has figured out that if you smack yourself on the glass, food will appear, which I find quite funny. I even have a picture (I will attach it).

My question is—have you guys noticed this behavior in your beardies?

Some information:

  • Enclosure size: 160×60×60 cm
  • UVB: Arcadia D3+ Compact Reptile Lamp 12.0 UVB
  • Heat source: Arcadia Halogen Heat Lamp 35W
  • Lighting: Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED Bar
  • Timers: I use sockets with timers set for 12 hours per day
  • Feeding: Own colony of Blaptica dubia (fed with veggies, water gel, and special roach food)
  • Greens: Home-grown arugula, dandelion, valerianella
  • Temperatures:I use both analog and digital thermometers
    • Cool side: ~26°C
    • Basking spot: ~44°C

You have some beautiful dragons BUT it is not recommended to EVER keep dragons together unless for breeding- please separate them- they may be getting along now but in time one will completely dominate the other other and more than likely fighting will insue and you dont want that-- another thing I recommend you get a long tube fixture for your UVB - the compact UVB's are inadequate and do not provide proper UVB -- they are a hazard to the dragons health and can and will cause all kinds of health issues -- the Arcadia is a great brand but please get rid of the coil- a 36" fixture would be good for the 150 gallon tank --
