Bearded dragon veg

Same question. I've tried everything I can think of to get my baby to eat his veges. I've resorted to vet's advice of putting a mixture of various greens and carrots and squash (I rotate mixture with diff veges each time) into a food processor with a bit of water and putting the liquid into a syringe and letting him lick a few drops hoping that will accustom him to the taste and he'll want to eat them. This also is comforting in thinking he's getting at least some nutrients if not the full effect he should be. He seems to like the drops and laps them up. In between, I'm continuing to entice him with small pieces of various veges as I don't want him to get to accustomed to the drops. I do still put the salad in his cage, as well, hoping he'll be curious enough to try eating some. I've also not fed him any crickets in the morning until I've tried to entice with veges hoping that not being as full might help. So far, he's being a stubborn lil guy.

Oh another quick question: Do I dust his salad with calcium every time or just a few times a week? I do dust the majority (I leave a few undusted) crickets and worms each day, but I'm concerned with overdosing him on calcium. Can you overdose them on calcium? I'm trying to be even on the calcium dusting (majority of bugs dusted with a few not and dusting every other salad mixture) at this point as I'm not sure. He is still a baby.

And to clarify he's not eating the salad mixture at this point so he's not getting that calcium intake, but would like to know about the salad dusting for future reference. Thinking positive here. lol

How do I get my baby dragon to eat his veg?
I encourage mine by putting veggies in a dish and putting a cricket in with it. Then maybe if he eats the cricket he will eat the veggies. Or hornworms or waxworks. If he really likes you, you could try hand feeding him as well. That’s all I have sorry... good luck!

Thanks for the assist! I'll try the cricket trick to see if that might work. I've put few meal worms on top of his salad, but he just eyes them and doesn't show much interest. I've tried hand feeding him different bits of various veges as well as tried with feeder tongs. No luck, so far. Stubborn baby. I think he likes me. He'll let me take him out of his tank now and he sits on my chest for a bit. His head is up, his breathing isn't harsh, and he little tongue licks out so I think that's a good sign. He's just so tiny I don't take him out for long and won't even dare let him fully down to explore yet. I can't wait until he's old enough to do so. I loved seeing Seymore exploring around and finding sun spots to bask in.

as babies i wouldn’t worry too much! they need mostly insects anyway, so they won’t have much interest. my baby (hes about 5 months now) wouldn’t even touch his salad until he tried a blueberry! now he’s eating his collards and bell peppers without hand feeding most of the time. keep offering your dragon veg and try some different ones and maybe some fruits to gain their interest. hand feeding helps a lot too as you can move the food to gain interest. if it’s something with juice you can gently tap it on their mouth so they can taste it. again, babies need more insects so if they don’t like veg i wouldn’t worry yet!

Isn’t it strange how they all love blueberries?

Thanks very helpful. Blueberries. Great idea. I'll try one just to see if he likes it. My state is after all known for our blueberries. :) The fruits I've tried so far are watermelon, raspberries and strawberries. I try 3-4 times a day holding small bits of various veges and fruits in my fingers near and in front of him (I even try wiggling it a tad bit sometimes). He'll lick moisture off pieces sometimes, but then his mouth clamps together and I swear he gives me dirty looks as if to say that's not a bug. If I persist the lil stubborn guy will eventually turn his head away in an absolute nope, not happening. I stop at that point. I don't want him annoyed or stressed. I'm going to check and see if I have any blueberries. Yipes, ok, I'll make sure I only give them sparingly! Thanks!
