Hi y’all!!
My beardie just started shedding for the first time since I bought him he’s almost 2 years old!
Anyway was wondering what I should and shouldn’t do while he’s shedding can I handle him? He’s also been acting very weird since he started, like sleeping during the day, beard getting very black and blown up and hissing, skin getting dark and not pooping as much and even sleeping during the day are these things normal???
Thanx!

Welcome to the forum :) and yes Shedding can definitely make a beardie unhappy, especially if its a head shed , although I haven’t heard it making them black beard and sleep, i dont know if that’s normal or not (ive never seen that behavior from my girl) , if possible can you go over your lighting, temps, diet (as with alot of beardie owners, issues can be attributed to either lighting, temps, or diet) if u can go over those with us itd help us diagnose whats goin on, absolutely NO COMPACT COIL UVBs (these cause eye problems and offer little to no uvb) he needs his temps at 80-95 for the basktspot and 70-80 for the rest of the enclosure, handling is okay during shedding , but with him acting weird id just leave him be, if u can post pics for us thatd really help (one of the enclosure, the lighting, the lizard itself, and possibly one of his recent poos, you can tell alot from looking at their poo)

No that is not normal -- if the dragon is getting a black beard something else is going on -- hes either in distress or pain --- what are you using for a UVB? Brand and bulb please -- sleeping is not a normal behavior for shedding -- loss of appetite being grouchy is normal ---

But I’ll let you know when it comes cus I have no idea how to set it up!

thanx!!

Yes please post back on here when you get the UVB -- tell me what you got and I will help you get it placed -- but I am thinking the UVB is the issue -- those play a significant role in the behavior ---

I most definitely will! but at least Ik that the uvb is probably the problem instead of having to worry about other possibilities

Once you get it changed out and a day or two you should notice a difference in the behavior -- eating basking and activeness
