Bearded dragon salmonella outbreak

I am going to have to sanitize my whole house LOL! Seriously people, just use common sense and practice good husbandry.

Yeah, I've been keeping reptiles almost 20 years and I've never gotten sick. Neither has my family. And my kids were only toddlers/preschoolers when I started keeping reptiles. Guess I was a bad mom.

Guess i am too. My not even 4 yr old has 2 anoles in her room and my bearded dragon is in the living room. We also have a 7mo old whos all over

Dexter is on the couch from the moment I get home from work until I go to bed! I have the same risk getting it from the veggies I put in our salads. If you clean up after your pets you cut down on your risk of catching something. I was reading the list of things you shouldn't do and was just like "why even have a pet then"? My cats are all over the place and they step in and out of a litter box all day long, should I keep them in a kennel so they don't contaminate my house?

Although.....a little salmonella would help loose a few extra pounds!!!! I'M KIDDING, not a good weight loss plan. LOL!

Its there poop that hold salmonella not the beardir its self so if u got a.nice clean beardie n u clean the poop as soon as they do it n bath.them.regularly then u got.newt to worry bout ive got 2 kids a 5 n a 2 yr old n they neva got sik or me so happy days

My thoughts exactly. My.kids hold them and kiss them i mean i alway put hand gel on my hands b4 and after handling but thats more for them than me hehe but yeh if u got a clean beardie ur fine

Same here or I hand wash.

My son and I handle, kiss, and play with our beardies every day. Neither of us have ever gotten sick but we hand wash whenever we handle them. I dont' sanitize my mouth after kissing them but I doubt they can poo on their head.

I agree! My son and I kiss him all over and hold him constantly. Never had an issue. I think filthy conditions is where this would be an issue.

Exactly! I think the people that have gotten sick are the ones that don't clean up the poop right away and let the beardie run through it.
