So I picked up a 8-11 month old male Citrus Tiger Leatherback that is 100% het hypo and 66% possible for trans het. I fell in love with him. He seemed fine. I get him home the poor little guy has a Upper Respiratory infection. :( I was not told about this he may also have mouth rot when I helped drain some of the mucus he opened his mouth where I could see it his gums/teeth kinda looks yellow I will find out tomorrow at his vet appointment. I guess this my explain why he was only $100 they said they paid $175 originally. He defiantly wont be returned for a refund I will be giving him proper care and a good home. It is a little frustrating because it was from a breeder at this weekends show. Not sure if you can tell from the picture he has a little snot draining here he was stressed from the show so his beard was all black and he is sick of course at shows seeing stress is normal really couldn't tell there was anything wrong. His set up is minimal for the time being.

Hi, typically mouth rot is a secondary infection. However, from the pics and your description. I dont believe your new dragon has mouth rot. I could help confirm if you are able to get a pic of the inside of the mouth.

To treat an Ri effectively. Your vet will need to do a culture sensitivity test on the infection. Prescribe the correct antibiotic to combat the bacteria at hand. Many will advise the raising of heat during this time. I perosnally do not believe this is necessary. The dragon given proper temps will heal with the aid of the proper antibiotics. Depending on the drug prescribed. Most regimens suggested are 10 + days so you have your work cut out ahead of you. I would also put a shallow water bowl in at this time to raise the humidity up just a tad in the cage. Im not talking about tropical forest humidity. Just something around 40-50%. Well ventilated humid air helps breathing. Stagnant humid air causes issues. The next part you have already elaborated on. You definitely want to clean any excess mucous from the mouth during this time.

I will try to get a picture of the inside of his mouth. thank you for the information I just want him to get healthy. I am still kinda upset that he is sick to begin with its hard to tell at shows because there all stressed. Does anyone think he looks like he has a slight bit of an under bite or is that just me? It could just be the structure of his mouth.
