recently i got a new basking slate for my bearded dragon (its like a black slate) and shes not going to bask but rather stays on the other side of her tank. the temperatures are always between 98-102 which i think is ideal so im not sure what the problem is. is the black slate tile absorbing too much heat to the point staying on it is too hot for her? its definitely too hot for me to touch but not unbearable.

Yes I do not recommend slate -- how are you getting the surface basking temps? Digital probe thermometers are the most accurate - IR guns are good but cannot read off of certain materials and I do believe slate is one of them

Wood or resin - I use decor from PetSmart that are made out of resin - some people use bricks to me they are too coarse - I have this piece but it is made out of resin easy to clean https://www.petsmart.com/reptile/ha...cor/thrive-driftwood-reptile-decor-54734.html I have this one https://www.petsmart.com/reptile/ha...rive-rainforest-cave-reptile-decor-55905.html
I dont use the hubba huts they are too hard to clean - you can also get pieces of wood from outside but you must bake them in the oven to kill what ever is living in them - bake at 300 for like 15 minutes - you can look on dubiaroaches.com they have nice hides I have this one https://dubiaroaches.com/products/exo-terra-reptile-cave-x-large
It is up to you but the slate gets way too hot --
