Bearded Dragon MBD

I realize that due to me not having a UVB lamp and calcium dusted food my dragon may have MBD. What should I do about this? I gave him like 35 calcium dusted crickets and I'm buying a UVB lamp tomorrow and upgrading him to a 55 gallon tank, anything else? Is the hump permanent and is my dragon at risk for dying. He wasn't moving much but he managed to position himself inside a stucture in the tank.

He also fell back after I was trying to pick him up, it only an inch fall ( or less ) though. That may be the cause.

My bearded dragon isn't eating but we got it a UVB bulb. I'd really like a response because I need to know how much danger my bearded dragon is in.

My suggestion is to research and do it right for now on. Maybe start him with a warm soak then let him bask and try feeding different options. They are picky. You can't really reverse what happened. How long have you had him?

I've had him 2 months, would you happen to know what the likelihood of my dragon dying of UVB is? I've taken him outside for natural sun and given him a UVB light, he hasn't eaten today yet but I'll try to give him calcium coated crickets.

I doubt that in 2 months he could have developed MBD but I'm no expert in that. Honestly on the feeding they are really really picky eaters. Mine won't eat all the time either. I've had her for 3 almost 4 years. There's no answer on if it could die from its past. Just make today day one and start fresh. And good idea on the outside sun-it's always better. Do you have a spot where he can heat bathe in its in closure? They won't eat if they are too cold. Also did the lump happen after you dropped him?

It happened after I dropped him, and he had a heat bathing spot ( it's on the ground because he can't climb right now ). He hasn't been moving much and twitches when he does.

If you dropped him and now he can barely move he may have a broken bone or something I'd get to the vet. Please learn from this have your equipment in place before the animal.

Would upgrading him to a 55 gallon tank during this time be bad for him? He's in a 10 gallon now. I'll see if I can convince my dad to take him to the vet monday. I'm just worried he won't make it, how often is MBD fatal?

You can stop it's progress but never repair the damage. I'd get him healthy before I focus on anything else. Take him into the sun for 20 or 15 minutes at a time multiple times a day. The sun and calcium and uvb and basking light. They need the heat of the basking light to digest the food and nutrients and the uvb is mandatory too. Mbd damages the neurological development if it's severe they can't control their movements . I put down a chameleon because it was too far advanced and suffering. But was able to save another one. Mbd is worse for females because they make eggs and need the proper nutrition.

Good luck and you can always drop it off at a vet and sign it over to them to get proper care .

My concern is that my dragon isn't eating, he ate 35 calcium dusted crickets ( 2 feedings ) yesterday so I'm a bit surprised he stopped eating so suddenly

It's probably because, judging by the picture, he is in lot of pain. I think your main concern should be to get him to the vet asap. I wouldn't stress him by moving him to another tank at the moment, I would just try and leave him in peace as much as possible I think.

I want to take him to the vet but my dad is worried that they will just tell us to give him sun light and a UVB bulb which he already has. My dad is planning on getting liquid calcium and using a dropper to give it to him while he basks.

Good news, I accidentally left a cricket in his tank and he ate it when it hopped near him. He goes through phases were he won't eat from the pincers so this is one of those, he ate one calcium dusted cricket and another is in his tank.

Do try and get your dad to take this little one to the vet..They can live a long time with good care so it's worth it. MBD damage can't be fixed but many live long lives once conditions are optimal. But if your little one isn't eating well it's likely because its hurting. Be careful with loose crickets in there with him as at night the crickets will often nibble and bite the sleeping dragon...
Correct lighting and heat zones, vet check to make sure nothing is broken causing un needed pain, adjust to what his needs will be if he can't move well as far as enclosure and making sure he can get to the areas to get the UVB and heat. 1hr outside = 8 under the uvb.

I think my dad will take him to the vet, his concern is the cost but he's cutting back on stuff to save money. He ate a few more crickets, he struggled to move to get them but since I moved them close to him and ripped off a hind link he ate around 4 crickets.

I hope so as it needs to be determined if anything is broken, he may be a high needs baby meaning your going to have to do exercises regularly, feeding sessions as he may not be able to catch things...all things to think about if he's "stuck" this way

If money is a concern then you should take it to a vet and sign it over to the vet. There is something definitely wrong with your bearded dragon, the way the front legs are rolled back shows that yes it does have MBD, can it be repaired no, can it be stopped yes with multiple vet visits and calcium injections and supplements all this costs money. As far as the hump in its back, that needs to be evaluated ASAP, you dropped your bearded dragon and now it has has a lump on it's back, a very large one I might add. The hump could be caused by a broken back or it could be MBD you will never know and you can't properly treat it unless a vet looks at it.

I know vets are expensive but that's why when adults get into keeping reptiles or any other pet, we research what it is going to cost us in the long run between properly feeding them and housing them with proper lights etc. to having an emergency vet plan. Your dragon is now considered a special needs dragon and needs lots of long term care to make it's life comfortable.
